Thread: Kings P/Rate coils

Ok , some one must have fitted a set of Kings - defender p/rate option KLRR-05HDPR coils to the rear of there 130. How do they perform when loaded ?. Buy loaded I mean 240 lts fuel, 120 water , two spares on rims and all the other fruit associated with remote travel.
The next contender is kings extra H/D rear raised coil KLRR-05EHD. The pdf rates them at loads ( 500kg) , must be a harsh ride when unloaded ?.
Not looking at air bags , just replacements for the worn twin spring setup.

No idea about King. Going through the same with my 130 and i'm dealing with Dobinson. Knowing the specs of the coils helps work out whether it will be suitable for your needs. For example using Dobinson as an example their rear 130 coils specs are:

C51-009T are 22mm, 410mm free height and 540lbs/in
C51-059T are 21mm, 440mm free height and 450lbs/in.

The 009T are quoted as a lift of 45mm (no constant load quoted). The 059T are quoted as a lift of 45mm with 500kgs constant load. Of the 2 the 059T will give you a more compliant ride but based on the marketing description you would be led to believe the 009T was more compliant.

That was a long winded answer to really say call King and talk to them about your needs and get their specs for each model coil.

If the standard 130 set up was working for you why not replace like for like. More accommodating for all purposes than a single coil set up.

Thanks for your reply MLD . If I was able to find a set of genuine 130 double rear coils, that's what I would go for. The Les Richmond white tiger coils have been mentioned by other 130 users. At a glance they seem to fit the bill, weight application and price wise.
Or I could take a lucky dip at something medium rated and jam a set of WB statesman front coils inside if they sag after a trip.

Post a wanted ad in the markets section. People are pulling out coils all the time.

Call TR Spares in Sydney, Triumph Rover Spares in SA, or suck up the cost and go through a dealer. Other options are UK distributors, Craddocks, Paddocks etc.

Sourcing OEM 130 coils is not hard. Accepting the price for OEM parts is the psychological hurdle.
