I'd imagine if you used the correct Castrol oil (one of the guys will pipe up with the correct grade and Professional suffix) and filter and you didn't tell them there shouldn't be an issue. Buying it is not as easy as it would seem though. If you find it you'll most probably have to buy at least 25 liters.

The fact remains that they take a dim view on anyone touching Defenders in warranty, especially if they can use it to wiggle out of warranty claims. My dealer never balked at doing services at 10,000km intervals and they are in reality no more expensive than the indie guys here in Perth.

Strictly speaking none, until 20,000km, unless you have been doing arduous work. Have a browse lots of info, join up and download the maintenance schedule and buy the workshop manual in the shop.

Models without Diesel Particulate FIlter (DPF), use CASTROL EDGE PROFESSIONAL A5 5W-30.

Now you try and find some, be easier to find gold rocking horse ****

For the motor the spec for the 2.2 without DPF is A5 5W-30 WSS/M2C913B/C

Ive been using Total Quartz 9000 NFC A 5W-30 because it is easy to buy in small quantity and its a fraction the cost of Castrol.

Use a genuine LR filter and replace the sump plug. The ford filters with the chevron pattern look better as they have a larger surface area and will be using them now that warranty has expired

MM LR sell a very good service kit using Mahle filters that are made in Germany at a fraction of LR/Ford Oz prices shipped to your door,Britpart make the Chevron style filters that can be sourced on their own or in a service kit also. Pat

I also use Total in my 2008 Puma. Last year (at 6 years old) I had an engine change owing to the PCJ issue. Land Rover wanted to check the service history naturally enough. One of the services was not carried out by the maindealer so they wanted proof of the oil used etc. I had the receipt etc for the Total Quartz and Land Rover was happy with it. Very good oil.

I use Penrite oils in my 2013 Puma, in the 5w40 engine oil.
Repco and Super cheap stock them so getting it when i need it is no problem,
10 lt of HPR Diesel 5 is around $90...and what's left over i can use in the motorcycles...
