Just got a Front Runner safe but wiring loom in the way

    Hi all,

    I have a 2012 D90.

I bought a Front Runner safe from Mulgo

    Links:

Under Console Safe / Land Rover Defender

I knew I'd have to re-position the fuel lines like this bloke:

Defender 90 XS: Under Cubby Safe

But there's a fat wiring loom that seems to be in the way as shown in the picture attached.

Section marked "A" is a little arm coming out of the main fat loom where if it was around a bit it would allow the fat loom to lie flatter and the section marked "B" has these 3 sets of wires coming out that only give about 25mm of room.

The clearance I need is a minimum of 45mm but I also bought some heat shield which is 6mm thick so about 50mm....

The loom is zip tied into place so it doesn't move a lot. I don't like the idea of trying to squish it down.

Has anyone else come across this issue before?

Should I ask an auto electrician to try and move the loom?

    No.. I'd return the safe....

Don't mess with the wiring. It will end in tears!

    Get a Mulgo exbox instead..

Made for the cabling and all the gear under the drivers seat too...

You're probably right about not messing with the wiring... not worth the risk!

Instead of returning the safe I think I'll either cut the bottom half off and put a new tray in so everything is inside the cabin.

    OR

Make a 25mm riser inside the cabin for the safe to sit on and remove those wood blocks under the cubby to make up the difference.

Have a look at his ExBox though.. Already set up for all the wiring from under the seat (gets it high and dry)...

This is weird because I had no issues at all fitting the safe to my D90, and I don't believe DefenderMike had issues either. I did have to unclip the fuel lines, but I don't recall any wiring loom in the way. Maybe you should check if Land Rover have stuffed up your loom routing and get that sorted before you get problems with it, rather than ignore it and assume you'll add problems by moving it. First point of call would have to be a phone call to Daniel at Mulgo though. He's great to deal with so give him a shout.

If it's a safe you want, why would you change it for an ex-box? It does a completely different thing. ("Doesn't even sound same!"). I love my safe and have no issues with the electrics being under my seat.
