Silicone should not bother it... the type of corrosion we are talking about here is of minimal risk, but taking measures now may be better in the long run.
Galvanic corrosion is similar to the process which occurs within a battery (a galvanic cell)- electrons move between one metal and another, and requires a electrolyte to corrode... which lets face it, is not applicable all the time.

What we're trying to do is prevent direct contact between dissimilar metals which may lead to corrosion. The silicone may do the job, but may not be suitable for easy removal of the panels. I guess my reason for taking these measures is for longevity of the installation, to protect against any water that may get logged into the foam gasket I used (whcih was to protect the paint underneath) and finally for ease of removal if I wish to in the future.

    Thanks for the info
I just googled it and there is a boat shop near my current client so I will pick up some next week.

With regards to foam, I used 1.5mm rubber from Clarke Rubber but it sticks up too much. I will use silicon or spray pladticid.
I will do it next weekend and report back, this weekend is out, very wet.

Where I'm up to so far with the mock-up is just marking out the holes and checking that it's aligned properly. It's going to take some nerve to put that drill to the panels though

The attached pics show how the vents sit proud of the plate. Like I said, it's probably going to be a job for 'ron.

Measure and check 3 times and you will be right. First pilot hole is the hardest, once you did that and then the big 9mm you will feel good, the rest is easy.
