    Puma AC condenser leak

    Hi All,
Has anyone had an issues with a Puma Defender AC condenser? it seems mine has developed a leak, i price one up, ~2600 from land rover!!! best i could find was 1200 for one.... The AC place have my truck at the moment and are looking at fitting a more common variety and changing the lines/dryer to suit for a lot less than 1200, considering i only just found this issue yesterday and leave for darwin tuesday im trying what ever i can to get it sorted.

Either way i am a bit ****ed 3-4 years and 100,000km out of this one and it shows no signs of physical damage apparently, just leaking in between the fins. Has anyone else has this issue?

There are sealants that can be injected into the system to stop small leaks like yours. One such brand is 'Cliplight Superseal Automotive'.
Cant comment on effectiveness as I've never used it. But for $60-$80 it'd be worth a try!

    Cheers

I've had this problem and it caused my compressor to seize as well due to leaking oil with the refrigerant.

Had an acquaintance who works on Rovers do a bit of conversion with a few Jap parts to make it work (cooling coil and thermostat). Not as cold so far but it beats driving around in an oven.

Apparently, you cannot get just the original cooling coil from LR or anyone selling LR parts. You can only get the coil with the entire box! This being the case, you can expect to pay accordingly. The only consolation you have, if you can call it that, is that you have the original box to part out in the event that something other than the cooling coil fails in the future.

Given the not so optimized nature of the conversion done to my truck, I will eventually be saving up for an original box and coil once I've sorted out all the issues I've inherited from the previous owner.

A LR dealer told me my condenser was leaking and quoted about $2200 to replace it. The leak was a actually coming from one of the pipe joints. When I was looking for a replacement condenser, I found that the late td5 condenser is the same unit, so might be a bit easier to find. It's not unknown for condensers to leak, might be a stone strike or similar, but I would have it pressure-tested before replacing.

Its all said and done, had it done the day i posted this. All replaced with much more affordable parts they are commonly available in Aus..

Yes i had it pressure tested and i it was a fitting leak, mine has a crack in between the fins possible from being poorly made and eventually failing from fatigue.
