Just thought I would put up a picture of one of my defenders that was rolled a few months back, it went over 3-4 times, driver walked away and after dragging the vehicle back up to the road we drove it home, no chassis damage, didn't even bust the mirrors, but having a little trouble finding a left door without rust.. Should have it back on the road in the next few weeks, but overall a good outcome with no injuries..
Glad no one was injured! Good ol defender, if the chissis good you can just bolt on what's needed. You think the cab protector saved you a bit? I'd hate to roll my 110 puma can see the flex in the pillars when I close the door. Have even contemplated external cage... Also they do look cool
I had an old 1986 split top/bottom door (sliding windows) and could not find replacement parts in even remotely good condition. However I ended up buying new parts from the UK. Even with the shipping it came out as less than $600AU to my door.
I just had a look around a few of the big UK stores and have found that the new single part doors are around 265GBP ex vat (paddocks). Maybe that could be a good option? At least you have some higher likelihood that it is rust free..
Thanks stuey, never even thought of that option, will have a look, I can new genuine parts, but would need to prime and spray, I'm also looking out for a complete vehicle.. With 4 tray tops on the road it would probably pay off in the long run for parts..
So finally found a complete ute to start swapping body parts over onto the rolled 110, it's been a farm ute from day one and has been flogged hard, good motor and diffs, grumbly gearbox, but a useable body..this is the stripped/rolled ute
Many years ago my dad opened a gate and when he turned around he realised the Defender was racing back down the hill with no one inside it. Eventually it rolled a few time and ended back on its wheels. He too drive it home. The 4 wheeler which had been in the back at the didnt fare so well.
Amusingly mum tells the story about how she was surprised to see him home so early (he walked past and didn't say a word) and it was a while before she saw the car and the damage!
Well, finally got the old ute back on the road, rebuilt the old tray, body parts off a donor vehicle, it still drives as if nothing happened to it..480,000km on the original running gear, only rear axles and drive flanges upgraded..and a rebuild in the injector pump @350,000km.
