I too have suffered from a clutch master cylinder wearing out early. Mine did not leak, just the internal seal let go so had to pump the pedal. Now the replacement one has developed a clunk in it as I depress the pedal.

I went through 3 water pumps in a matter of 6 months and all of these had workmanship faults.

Not sure if this happens with other makes, but is annoying.

Try not to use a genuine m/c, (Girling/Lucas/TRW) they just don't cut it.

The clutch m/c is just a generic 3/4" bore brake and clutch m/c used on lots of applications, it isn't Land Rover specific

I used a PBR one for years, lasted eight or so years, maybe longer.
Replaced it two weeks ago with a Taiwanese one recommended by the locals parts shop.
Said he's sold them for years, (trailer brake and clutch m/c) never had a come back.

Yeah, I put in a Girling or Lucas (can't remember ) and they're crap. Super slow leak after 2 years and hardly ever drive it.
Dromader - what brand is yours?
Rick - please what's the name of the local shop? I'll ring them

Resealed my original many years ago and got another 5-6 years.
When it went next time I sourced a stainless steel lined one, no problems since.

Originally every time I changed the clutch fluid it was black (from wear of the aluminium), now it's much cleaner.

Fred Smith Automotive in Bayswater VIC buys in the trailer ones and sends them straight out to be sleeved. Cost was about $130 a couple of years ago.

I went down the resleeve route a few years back, was worse than original, did 3 sets of seals in a short time, (lucky I didn't torch the Landy) then discovered when they pressed the sleeve in they had kinked it at the end of the bore, no wonder it was tearing the seals up.

Will give it another go though soon.

Hi Didge, it's Scone Spare Parts, can't recall the brand ATM but it was from a well known brake and clutch wholesaler, I think it was IBS ?
