    Sydney service advice

    G'day,

Looking for some advice on independent and LR servicing in Sydney.

Recently brought my late MY14 90 down to Sydney, so I've never used a Sydney LR service center or independent. The truck has clocked 10,000km and I'd like to get a once over (engine oil, oil/fuel filters and check diff/transfer case oils). Haven't had a single issue with the truck so far. Love it to bits.

I would get the work done at an independent but I have free 3 year LR servicing, so might as well use it.

My plan is to get the truck looked over by an independent in Sydney who knows what they're doing, then take it for the service at a LR dealer with a list of items/issues.

    Looking for your views on:

    - Who is the pick of the independents? Davis Performance Landys or Graeme Cooper? Leaning towards Graeme Cooper as it's much closer to me.

    - Who is the pick of the dealers? Alexandria is the closest to me.

I understand you can't give negative feedback on businesses etc on the forum for liability reasons - so please steer away from that. Only let me know who you use/have had good experiences with. If you don't mention someone, then safe to assume there's a reason.

    Would really appreciate your views.

    Cheers,

    Tom

I've used Graeme Cooper to service my defender 90 and Range Rover vogue and been happy with the few dealings I've had with them.
I have not had anything done by Trivett Alexandria but I did ring them recently when I bought the Vogue (through someone else) to get all the service history.
The service manager Adrian Rodger was absolutely top notch.
I had no intention of using them to service the car but he spent time printing all the service history, removing the customer details and emailing the complete history (about 30 pages).
This makes me want to start using them occasionally.
I also know someone who has had vogue issues in the past that other dealers have not been able to diagnose properly and Trivett had sorted for them.
So going of this I think they're probably good.
You might just pay a little more.

I put my 110 in at Graeme Coopers for a minor service and they do a report at the same time. Cost me $500 or thereabouts, with a list of repairs needed.

I ended up shopping around for my gearbox and tc to get rebuilt, and it turned out I got it done by someone who does most of the work for dealers and another well known indie, just for a lot less. Did the rest of the work myself, partly due to wanting to learn and partly due to cost.

Couldn't fault their thoroughness though, even got a report on how much grass and mud their was collected between ac, intercooler and radiator.

For $500 including a minor service, I was pretty happy.

Graeme Cooper's have done some major work for me in the past vis rear balljoint that was stuck and original. Good work from a dedicated crew.

I thought the business had been sold though so not sure who is running it now. Never used the dealers

Graeme cooper for sure, I have been going there since Graeme first started in Newtown in the late 80's and the subsequent moves to where they are now. Customer number 28 I think I am. Stuart owns the business now, Graeme retired a few years ago but the service and dedication is just the same. Even though I now live in the Hawkesbury Valley I still drive to St Peters for service. Always very friendly and honest, but book early as they are very busy.

    Wot he said!

I too have been using Graeme Cooper Automotive since Graeme was a sole mechanic in Gladstone Street.

If on the south side of the harbour you can also try Pete Davis Roving Mechanical The Roving Mechanical Mobile Land Rover Service lots of good words about them.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like Graeme Cooper is the winner!

In terms of dealers to do the servicing, I'm leaning towards Trivett Alexandria or Purnell Blakehurst.

I don't know Cooper. But I can assure you that Bruce from Davis Performance Landrover is very good so is Northen Beaches Land Rover and service manger Lewis Strachten.

I'm going to throw a vote in here for Ayres in Brookvale.

Monty has been serviced there since his warranty ran out in 2011 and that includes a fantastic pre-warranty check where they told me what I should have looked at/ replaced under warranty before it ran out and my Desert trip service where they helped advise on the right spares to take. They're extremely thorough these chaps...and all they do is service Land Rovers.

I doubt they're any cheaper or more expensive than anyone else - labour is labour and parts cost what they cost....but I've always found them to really care about the car leaving in the best possible condition and they're enthusiasts as well.

They're an award winning small business too, which I like.

I've used both Graeme Cooper and Ayers. Both are Land Rover specialists and technically capable, but I'd say that the service culture at Ayers is hard to beat . . . they really go above and beyond with customer service, eg, little things like taking time to really explain the detail of an issue and how they will address.

I use Ayers now because it's closer to my house, but you won't go wrong with either.
