On the EDJITS Cape trip we got to the first major creek crossing where they were pulling out a stuck and stalled Toyota while various Hi Luxs and Patrol were standing watching and waiting. We asked if we could get through and all three Deefers went down the steep entry point through the creek and up the slippery exit with no problems. While waiting for my turn I heard one of the Patrol owners say to his mate "Maybe I should get one of those"

Now put a woman in one. And watch the reactions when people ask if it's "hubbies"...and are told no...

One of my best mates cringed when he found out I was buying another Defender. He occasionally used to borrow my old 300Tdi 130 ute and was always critical of it. He has given me a hand with some of the modifications I have made to the new one and it must be growing on him. He said to my Fiance the other night "Don't tell him but I think the new ute is awesome'. I like converting them!

Coming from 10 odd years driving an 80 series landcruiser it was fun hearing the comments when I brought my D3. The best one was (and I directly quote:
No surprise your copping shyte. A defender or 110 I could understand but a discovery isn't even a real landrover
And that was coming from another Toyota owner

Before I bought Bear I was driving Hans my 88" s3 around town for a few months.. Sometimes ute cab on sometimes off sometimes door tops on sometimes not. Occasionally with windscreen down.

People around here know where my loyalty lies..

So coming back with a brand new Puma 110 I was in "bobcat mode" (the happiest little digger around). Anyway in the servo and walking back towards the car when local young bloke says to me "that's a proper flash one why don't you get one like that?

I told him all the keys are the same from 1948 onwards. Then said here I'll prove it I'll take it for a spin.. I hopped in pretended to adjust everything g and then started it and drove off. Servo bloke reckons he stood there for about a minute before he twigged!!

I get peeved at the "did you restore that yourself" comments.. "No it's brand flaming new!

So I changed tack one day.. When he asked I replied "yes" to which he answered "you shouldn't have put those Plastic flares on it- now it looks dicky... Can't say anything because I fibbed to him... Bugger!

Yeah, our living room wall is pretty much a shrine to the "Moon Unit". We feature in a few photos, but you would think that she did the lap of oz with no help from us at all. Landrover in forest, Landrover at the beach, in the desert etc. Also plenty of Landrover broken down/flat tyre/flat battery/being towed pics as well, otherwise it's not a true account of your trip.

Driving back home to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore, pulled over for fuel at a highway stop. A Mercedes SUV that had been behind me on the hwy pulled up on the other side of the same pump.

As we opened fuel caps he commented, "I didn't think those Defenders could do 170km/h"

    Of course it never happened....

Neil. That is awesome (hypothetically of course). What an advert for a remap!
