Over water is my greatest fear. As I mentioned in my last post, lost one in a river.

The Inspire has a Return To Home function if it loses connection to the remote or if you think it's acting oddly. It hasn't stopped fly aways though - the tech is still not fully sorted.

    Wow.

    Wow to your setup.

    Wow to the images.

Thanks for all the information too - very useful.

Look forward to seeing the footage when you're done.

Umm need one with flashing lights, could have a lot of fun over some of the more remote villages at night
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Not true, you can replace the motors with a snip and solder/crimp.

You must either be pro shooting or on a long trip to warrant a backup P3 drone. Certainly better than a spare motor if you got the dosh!

I'm yet to really shoot 4k on my action cams. Takes up so much sd space, most aussie broadband hasn't got the lungs to stream it properly and the difference (shot on same cam) is barely noticeable on tv's under 80". IMO 4k is an obese format for the sensors in these small sd cams.

Do you notice much visual improvement on the p3 pro between 1080 and 4k video on your monitors @ home? I've started shooting 4k on my dslr but not got round to editing yet... reckon it will eat my laptop!

I have a 4K TV and the footage is just awesome on it. To me, the main advantage of shooting in 4K is that I can re-size to normal HD, and zoom in, or crop out bits. It also makes for easier tracking of the subjects.

Not a Defender, just a little bit bigger. This was all shot in 4K, then cropped or zoomed down to HD, except for the ground based stuff which was shot on an iPhone 6 in HD.

The problem with all the technology is fitting it into the Defender

Great footage and the Unimog is mighty impressive too.

I also notice the difference shooting 4K on the Inspire, although the 25fps maximum means it can get a bit choppy at times. Haven't figured how to smooth it out yet.

Only way is to fit Neutral Density Filters, as the camera aperture is fixed (F2.8) Switch to NTSC mode and get 30fps, then try get the shutter speed down to 1/60 sec. When I was shooting my Defender. I had a ND8 filter on and even that was not enough, I since bought a set with ND16 and ND32 for bright sunlight for my P3.

How much gear will you be carrying in your Defender - mine is very heavy in touring mode, have just too much stuff to carry. (and too many accessories) but the suspension can handle it with the right modifications.
