Puma holding revs

Col, that is exactly what I do... agreed it seems to work very well! :)

The Ford 'Puma' unit is pretty tough... it gets ragged in thousands of Transit Vans world wide everyday and you don't see many of those sitting at the roadside... and in the UK most of the Ford 'White Van Man' brigade are blasting up and down the motorways at speeds which would here mean jail! ;)

As an example - lets say I am accelerating (ha ha) in 2nd and rev out to over 3K rpm (maybe up to 3.5k rpm) - as I change up to 3rd the revs drop to around 2K - 2.2K rpm and hold there for a second or two while I get 3rd engaged. When I let out the clutch the revs are at the right point.

I think these PUMA's need to be driven harder to be enjoyed. Maybe I'll regret it later on - but pleasant experience so far.

Yes this is what everyone is talking about, it seemed really noticeable on the first of the 2.2, but all the really new ones Ive been getting in, I dont seem to notice it, so either ive got used to it, or its been tweaked down a bit.

I previously have said that my 2015 110 doesnt have this rev holding phenomenenenem -enem.
So, I did a few experiments, and I think I do indeed have this rev holding phenomenenenem -enem.

The difference is, that I never noticed it.

When playing around with the throttle today, I noticed that if I put the car in neutral and just rolled along at say 10kph, then if I push the accelerator pedal "just a little bit", then the revs go up and stay up for a period of time too about 1400rpm. Funny that.

Offroad during the landrover experience at Mt Cotteral some weeks ago I noticed that as soon as you engage low range the revs jump up when you backoff the power and disengage the clutch. Must be some sort of similar elecronics going on here. I think in the 4x4 mode its something to do with the anti-stall, but what do I know.

On the anti-stall bit, I did notice that going down a 45 degree slope in 1st gear low range with the foot off the brake, all is good the defender behaves way better than those vehicles with hill control decent.
All the instructors had defenders!

On the Defender Day Out last Saturday the leader, whose Defender was five speed, recommended over the radio we all go into low first for one descent. When I stuck our six-speed Puma in low first it almost came to a stop. I could have walked down the hill faster. I had to go to second low to keep moving at a similar pace to the leader. Man that low first is low!

Anti-stall is great uphill BTW. We crawled out of a creek bed and up a bank with the anti-stall keeping the revs up and the TC stopping wheel spin. It made it look easy.

Have to agree, I think its something like 63:1 ratio. Someone will correct me.
I filmed the decent on the decent and I think the speed down the hill was 1.6kph without touching the brake. I'll see if I can find the video.
Also, I was skeptical about the anti-stall at first, if I had the option to permantly disengage it, I wouldnt do it.
