If you want service, you need to see Steve.
DTG: 24082015 - 18:30
Place: Hale Rd, Forrestfield
Activity: Going home, towing loaded tandem axle 8 x 5 trailer after a days work.
Description: Stopped at traffic lights; turn green, Nigel begins to move into the intersection (not the highway), when BANG, RATTLE and CRUNCH, Nigel loses forward movement. Engage low range. Nothing. Hazard lights on. Exercise futile expletive delivery
. Have I just: (a) broken my gearbox? (b) done my salisbury diff?
Who knows. Call Steve. But first, call a mate to collect the trailer, 'cause I ain't leaving it in Forrestfield.
Steve, despite a big day in his workshop, takes my call as if the day was just starting and suggests engaging CDL. Oh, hadn't thought of that one
.
Great, forward movement is possible. I'll crawl Nigel off Hale Rd and into the carpark of St Martins Church - I did think twice and took a gamble with the Almighty. He must have had pity as there was no lightning bolt
.....
Anyway, cutting to the chase, RAC was called and within minutes, a tilt tray was on site and loading Nigel. Steve goes back to his workshop in Morley and opens up so that Nigel didn't have to sit out the front or outside all night, feeling poorly for herself.
Thoughts on mechanisms of failure were either the diff or the main output shaft, but Steve will get on to it as soon as he can.
Tuesday, axles out, diff drained, suspicions and tests didn't lead to the diff being at fault. This bugs Steve, who, after he'd gone home on Tuesday after work, went back to the shop, and decides to remove the drive flanges from the axles.
That's when he found the problem - stripped drive flanges
.
Wednesday he's on to replacing parts and Thursday, Nigel is repaired, tested and deemed roadworthy again!
What could have been many many $$$, turned out to be stripped flange teeth on both axles that put me out of pocket under $2k.
Steve - I can't thank you and Aamon enough for your work and the time you personally took to open up your workshop to ensure Nigel was secure overnight.
So again, if you want customer service, you need to see Steve at LifeStyle 4WD in Morley.

Steve kitted my 110 out for me. Now I've moved to Vic I won't get to use his services. Well maybe. I know he's rescued a lot of stranded drivers over the years. Nice all round bloke!
