My auto disco usually just requires up to 3k but sometimes see's 4k when required , defender may need more rpm due to tc gearing difference.

300 tdi revs, how much is enough?
Hi guys, I'm curious about what are the maximum practical revs that we use in a Tdi, I'm guessing most of us never see over 4000 rpm except of very rare occasion. ( except maybe desperately trying to get a a steep hill in low range
My own driving I think probably never, My seat of the pants tells me in the gears used the most; 3rd,4th,5th probably 3500 rpm is the most. But I don't have a tacho, Can anyone with a tacho in a 300 tdi disco or defender share what the maximum revs they would normally go to? cheers simmo

Revs for 300tdi; who says land rover are unrelaible ?
Thanks guys, that confirms what I was thinking, 2000-3000 mostly, 3500 occasionally, 4000 rarely. No wonder the old Tdis "keep on keeping on".
Mines done 200,000 ks, ( fairly low for a 1995 model), and just had it's 20 th birthday.. It still runs like a sewing machine, except for one unfortunate encounter with a "land rover garage", and a new front drive shaft it hasn't had any repair work done on it. I'm doing the tappets every 10,000 kms and maintaining the oil and filter changes etc. It's been kept in a garage all its life when not in use so the paint etc is still ok. The thing I need to check is for firewall and chassis corrosion and do some preservation there, and change out the tired suspension bushes.
The transfer case is leaking at the usual places, ( intermediate shaft etc) so that's another job, but not a real cause for compliant.
Well on track for another 10 years of reliable motoring I figure.
