G'day mate , and welcome to the site , There aren't too many Defenders that have this conversion . I think It is a shame , I used to have a TD5 Disco , and the gear change was really smooth and very well matched gearbox to engine . I now have a TD5 Defender and always thought this should have had Auto as an option from the factory . After all there were all they were all made in the same factory . I think customers would have payed the extra . They did with the Disco . I'm sorry not to know the answer to your question , but I hope you can get It sorted out ! good luck . Jim

Pibby on here has one. Send him a pm. I would however suggest that there is a wiring harness issue?

This isn't normal behavior for one of these. If you can't get hold of him then gove wholesale automatic transmissions a call in melbourne. They are very well acquainted with the compushift.

    Hi ya scotty,
Got your message. First up i'd contact ashcroft, they have a pdf with all of the settings.

    Do u have the display?

U using tps or map as your input?

what are the probs you're having?

Did it work ok before and something changed?

hiya pibby ok will email ashcroft.
-i do have the display unit
-not sure what you mean by maps or tps?
-the main problem I'm having is it kicks in to gear downshifting a low speeds as accelerate.
-ive had the issues since buying the car second hand, had it running pretty close to good, but now have fiddled to much and didn't right down which set points were giving best results.

The best starting point would be as you are saying to get the baseline right. As you have seen there are a lot of settings and they are all interlinked so trying to diagnose an issue you need a known working baseline.

Tps or map is the primary input it uses for much of its behaviour. U elect which one and it will look at it for certain decisions. Tps looks at throttle position % and map looks at manifold absolute pressure %.

Both of these readings are from sensors. You can see the sensor readings on the display next to TP and MAP.

Once you've got the baseline right let us know how it goes.

Ive been on to ashcroft and taken the set points back to basic, seems to be running a lot smoother. not perfect but a lot better. I've reduced my downshift offset to 75% and that has helped to reduce the kick back that seems to happen when it has downshifted and and i accelerate again. Ive found my temp sensor is not reading correctly (need to investigate) and I'm waiting on a new speedo sensor, see if those two make a difference.

Scotty Check what the tps and map readings are as you are driving. From memory there was a volt setting think it was map and ashcrofts had it at 3.3v. It always hit 100% on the display when I was checking things out on my learning curve when first got the car and it shouldn't have. I set max volt to 5v and it fixed the behaviour I was getting. 5v was the max of the sensor but compushift thought 3.3v was which it would see in normal driving regularly. Might be part of your problem.

Was wondering if it was normal that the the compushift always changes to fourth gear when I take my foot off the accelerator? Even at low speeds.
