Electric window conversion for early County doors

I know electric windows are soft and don't deserve a place on a County, but after recently spending a couple of months driving a Puma on a daily basis, having an electric passenger window is VERY convenient...

Anyone have info on electric window conversions for early county front doors (the lift up handle type)?
I know its pretty easy on the defender style doors with push button handles, but can't find any info on doing it to the early doors. I'm thinking the relatively flat door cards aren't going to give much room for the window motor etc, but hopefully someone else has already been down this path and knows for sure.

    Hi Steve

I was contemplating this in my Defender (1998) but I am not sure there is enough depth in the doors to house the motor mechanism. There are a few You tube vids around to give you an idea - but these only show normal car type doors.

What I am contemplating now is sourcing some second hand doors from a later model (assuming Puma) from the wreckers with everything included - power windows and central locking, but obviously not good on a County as I am assuming you have different handles?

Haha you got me there! Although I have hardened up a little bit. I now own a Defender and a Disco. Hope you find out how to do it. I may just copy it as well

In case you haven't seen it, this is the conversion that Ancient Mariner did on his 90's Defender using commodore : http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...c-windows.html

Guess I'm going to have to remove one of the County door cards and see whether the same style of conversion is likely to fit ...

I guess I'm going soft too. I would love a power window on the passenger side. And some sound deadening. And a non-leaking roof.

Seriously though, the only conversion I've seen had the door cards cut around the motors, with plastic covers over the top.

    Hey Steve,

I did this and it is a great conversion. I used the SPAL Deluxe kit - it fits under the door trims. The kit has an attachment that fits the standard landrover winder but you have to remove the hex plate on the winder first. It took me a while to work it out but it is made up to two parts. I removed the hex part by filing back around the shaft and twisting them off with pliers.

    I have some photos somewhere.......
