    Suspension 85 110 County - which springs

The current setup is supposed to be a 50mm lift but at the moment she is sitting nose up. I am about to do all the bushes to get rid of the rattles and clunks in the suspension and figured while it was up on th ehoist I would do the springs and shocks.

Which brand? I read somewhere that Terrafirma were not very good, but not sure if that was a personal opinion. Also looked at Ironman, Tough Dog, King Spings and Ultimate.

Also sterring is a bit more than the usual wallow and I have read about some correction needed for 50mm lift and the front bushes. Anyone got any input?

Castor correction can reduce wandering in a lifted Defender - can be done through eccentric bushes, corrected radius arms of slotting the swivels. Wallowing will be springs or shocks though.

I run Dobinson lifted springs and Bikstein shocks - nice combo, but a bit pricey. I'd be inclined to suggest you talk to Ultimate Suspension. That's where my next suspension will likely come from.

    Ahhh....

Most spring recommendations for Counties assume that the load leveller is in place and functioning. A simple and effective solution is to remove the LL (which probably no longer works and fit one of the Defender options. In my case Kings HD Deefer springs were fitted which provide a moderate (35-40mm) lift and has overcome the situation you have described..

(Bilsteins shocks - shocks and springs were KLR recommendations)

Very satisfactory result - give KLR a call for further info 02 45775010.

So how do you determine if the leveller is working or not? My previous inspection was that it was fine and did not have any leaks, but is there a way to check?

I would just track down a set of standard rear coils from a defender and fit those, and if you have a steel bar on the front and contemplating a winch then you can use std 130" defender front coils. If not then just std tdi defender 110 coils with the v8 and a bar would be perfect and give a little lift too. Don't skimp on shocks either. Pay the money and try ultimate, bilstein or koni.

Well, you posted thAt it was sitting "nose up"

It's not working - just remove it and install 1990s Deefer springs ?

If you get in contact with LRA in Melbourne they will give you the exact ones you need in your situation. When i did mine they were the only place that was really interested in my setup to give me the right ones.. I spoke to them about my setup, what I carried and weight etc.

The ones they sent me are spot on.

Park overnight on level ground, with a load in the back heavy enough to put the back down enough to measure easily. Measure clearance between bump stops and axle. Drive about half a kilometre or more, including a few bumpy bits. Park in the same place, repeat measurement. If the load leveller is working, it will now be sitting significantly higher.
