I was going to get a glove box from the UK but postage was outright shocking, so I made one over the past two days:
Removed dash pad from the cover, fiddly spring clips, but patience & a small screw driver & they do come off. Styrofoam pad is stored for future installation if reverted back to standard. Measure from the vehicle & draw up on graph paper:
Transferred to thin aluminium sheet:
Cut out with tin snips:
Holes drilled for rivets & dash lid, then painted with etch primer & matt black acrylic. Edged with small size pinch weld to prevent cuts on the sharp edges which were deburred but still quite sharp, as I only had 0.5mm thick alloy in the shed. Pinch weld also stiffens this up:
Install front plate with two small self tappers:
Rivet lid plate, & hinge plate to piano hinge - went for the Heritage brass version. Hinge plate then screws to existing cover mount using the same screws:
Finished article looks like the original, except a tad higher at the windscreen side:
I now have somewhere else to hide stuff, like glasses which I can never find in the cubby, they always sink down to the bottom under the cd's, hat, torch etc.
Well done !!
Thanks for sharing.
