Welcome to the 130 club. You have made a wise choice. While I am not a real techno I am happy to give any advice I can.

    Good luck with the rebuild

Tried to post couple of photos of my rig but having trouble will try again

A couple of pics of my rig with Trayon Camper. Great unit and very quick to set up dry and comfy

To take the weight of the Trayon I beefed up the suspension with heavy duty King Springs with Airman airbag suspension and double Bilstein shocks. Rides great both off and on-road by simply adjusting the pressure in the airbags

Looks great. Having started my rebuild with very limited time and space, i left the cab on the chassis. I now wish I had the time and space to do as you have done and stripped it right back and started from scratch...

I have to confess Ranieman it is true I am a tragic we have 3 D1 TDI's in the family
Andy130 I debated whether to keep the body in one piece but it seemed just as easy to dismantle it and that way I can store the bits under my house until I'm ready form them.
Chenz that a good looking rig thanks for the photo of the rear suspension that's on of the details I'm yet to work out, did you put a lift kit yours as well as the heavier spring?

Well guys yesterday I turned the corner all the dismantling and inspecting is complete and I started the clean down and painting of the chassis. Ill start ordering engine and gearbox parts next week, still debating whether to replace the head or just have the valves re-seated as original head is in fine condition in fact the whole motor measures up well within LR spec's. The one exception being the oil pump housing that was completely shot and expensive $700 but Id be a fool to cut corners at the cost of oil presser.

No lift kit just the King Springs.

Some other modifications I made or had done to date:

Ran all the accessories through a fuse box under the drivers seat
Put in centre roof console to take UHF and HF Radios and interior and map lights
    [IMG]
    [/IMG]
Put in Ashcroft lockers front and rear
Twin cylinder ARB compressor and tank with external coupling to attached air hose
Twin Deep cycle batteries - one in camper and one next to crank battery under passenger seat in parallel to run fridge and other accessories
    Dual battery management system
    LED Spotlights
    Rhino rack roofracks
Tip Top Heavy duty tray with Trundle Tray for extra storage
127 litre long range fuel tank
    Chipped for better pulling power

I am sure I will think of a few more add-ons

    Thanks
