Interesting thread, as I have installed a spin cleaner on top of the raised air intake.

After reading technical information on the thread I am wondering on how to calculate the engine CFM need?

Could it be that the spin cleaner is restricting the air flow to my 4.2 V8?

I have one that I use on my 2.2 Puma that is fitted to a safari snorkel. The part number is 9001R-SYK (4-inch Sy-Klone Series 9000 Precleaner for 275 CFM to 350 CFM). The supplier is LSM technologies in Brisbane. Ph 07 3277 6233.

I can't remember if I used it or not, but I also bought a 40R323-SYK (4 inch to 3.73 inch rubber reducing insert) on that same order. I have a rubber sleeve that fits inside the pre-cleaner to make it fit on the Safari shaft - I just can't recall if it is the 40R323-SYK or something else.

You need to be aware that when fitted to a Safari Snorkel the Sy-Klone will probably (but not definitely) interfere with or vibrate against the front corner of the roof gutter. If you have this problem then you will need to source and fit an extension piece like the one you can see fitted in Bushie's photo.

My TDI has one permanently fitted however I only fit the one on my Puma when I'm expecting to be in very dusty environments (ie outback touring). Personally, I probably wouldn't bother if I were to do it all over again.

Here's a photo of it on my 2011 (2.4) Defender, but I also use it on my 2013 (2.2) Defender. As you can see from the photo, I was able to fit it without an extension piece, but I did have a rubber pad fitted snugly between the Sy-Klone and the gutter to prevent it from vibrating against the gutter.

    Sy klone on 2.2 Puma

So fellas, greatthread full of useful ordering info.
    Ta.
How has the Sy Klone gone on 2.2 Pumas re intake? Any noticeable loss of power due to restriction?
Im seriously looking at buying one with Nuggets adaptor kit. Only to be used on long dusty trips.
    Thanks.

I dont have a snorkle yet but may make one.
Why is the air intake for the 2ootdi only 3 inches when your snorkles intake for this pre cleaner is 4 inches?
Would not the size be governed by the hole into the aircleaner?
If its only 3 inch diameter why make the snorkle that much bigger.?
OK there may be a friction element of restriction in the snorkle length so go a bit bigger but that seems a lot.
Just trying to decide how big a tube to use for the snorkle.

For what it's worth, I've got Donaldson pre cleaner fitted to the Safari snorkel on my 300 TDI. The sizing was done by the bloke from Donaldson and is the smaller of the two sizes they offer. Capacity is 5 M³. (about ∅200mm)The adapter was provided at the time. Don't remember the price, it was a long time ago.

What size for a modified 2.2 Puma?

I went to purchase my Sy Klone today from Peter, at the Brisbane retailer.
Really nice bloke, and was going to get the standard 9001R BUT, my Puma has an Alive 150hp remap, Decat and uprated intercooler, so, there we stalled.
Ive liased with Wayne from Nugget Stuff today, as he's looking at an intercooler mod as well on his beautiful 130.
So, will advise what the two bigger brains than mine come up with re which unit for modified Pumas.
