This pic here shows where the hole forms. This is actually the underneath of the hose, under the airbox basically.
I dont have a pic of it in situ I'm sorry.

This was my first hose blown, made no noises what so ever, just lost all power. Same on the second, and then, when it actually blew off, it went bang, then just no power,,,, or noise.
I think with your rattling type noise, its most likely the heat shroud/shield for the turbo itself. I have a pic somewhere of that, but I can't seem to find it.

    Thanks everyone for the suggestions,
and cheers Chops for the piccie.

I have (with the help of my landie mad husband and wife neighbours from up the road) been working through hose by hose trying to find it, removed the heat shield from the turbo and tried again...

    there is the noise...

    BUGGER!

so off with the elbow on the front of the turbo,
in goes the finger for a little wiggle .........

    and about 1/8" play!!

    see photo....

    turbo.jpg

    turbo2.jpg

This may be contributing to the noise???
The scoring and damage to fins etc is visable..

Will send email to Solitaires and see where I stand...
(surely 57k km is not normal for a turbo fail?) Its two months out of warranty but if you add the time it was at the workshops for problems I'd still be covered?!? (cheeky I know and yes I also know it wasnt the service mobs fault...)

If they wont cover I am left with a few options...
replace with same (how much, where from??)

replace with different aftermarket (how much, where from and why change?)

and after all this stuff about the hoses also being crap (paraphrasing of course) what brand is good (but not too exxy) for a set of silicon "implants" (prefereable in black!)

    all suggestions accepted gratefully...

I will need to get one ordered ASAP if its on me to do..

if its going to cost too much my wife will likely get out an angle grinder and install a pizza oven, much like this one

Damn that sucks big time,, pretty poor to say the least.
Hopefully LR will come to the party for you Nigel. I found dealing with Solitaires to be a great experience, even thinking outside the square a bit.
In concern with hoses, have a think about getting a steel/exhaust unit made.
As for turbo's, I've got nothing for you mate, but I guess one would have to wonder about standard replacement eh.
All the best with it mate, keep us updated.

    Digger,
If it comes to it, you can pick up the standard vgt turbos for a tdci for about 800 bucks off ebay
    IMO they are pretty good

Looks like Solitaires will cover it but i have to get it down to them..

That will only occur when the planets align (saturday arvo) have to sort out where to drop it etc

On the good side? Most of the car has been repaired or replaced so far

replaced induction elbow and cac pipe.
mine is just out of warranty, but replaced under warranty at austral qld.
hope this helps (might be someting else for you)
    see ya wow
The same thing happened to mine. It is very difficult to detect just looking under the bonnet. Eventually it will blow and the car will go into limp home mode. The new hoses are an improvement on the old ones. Get them to replace the lot especially the elbow.
    Cheers, Billy.

Land Rover will put it on a flat top and take it there free of charge if you call customer service.
    Cheers, Billy.

Chops, that hose should have been replaced in the recall which included a bracket to keep it out of harms way.

They never did it,, obviously , and they had had several chances to do it in Melb up till that point, and then some.

This particular fix was done by removing one off a new vehicle to get me going. The car was trucked from Wang to Albury, whom I might add were exceptionally helpful as I had the dog with me, and was like 40deg's in the shade.

I'll get the steel option done soon. I see it as the best long term fix.
