Thread: Best non roof rack Hi Lift Jack mounting location

I had the KAYMAR hi lift Jack and shovel brackets and simply bolted them to the rear crossmember as you suggest. I was able to mount both the Jack and a long handled shovel. Worked very well until I fitted the rear wheel carrier then had to remove them.
It looked very neat too, in my opinion.

I think there is a horizontal mount by front runner.
Failing that there is the spare wheel mounts that mount it vertically.

I have a rear wheel carrier as well so I'll check if that precludes the horizontal mount.
Toxic, I saw that Front runner have mounts thanks, but they want $50 for postage, hence seeing if any of the big 4x4 chains in Cairns might sell similar.
If not, and if I can mount on the rear cross member, Ill give the Expedition Center a call and order a set.

What type of wheel carrier do you have?
If you are handy with steel then something could be knocked up fairly easily. Most hi lift mounts use a bolt to secure down the hi lift bar (48" or60") and a cradle for the other end. The ratcheting lift mechanism self locks. .. so it's just a matter of using available space and getting the bolt lock down spacing right.

Personally I shelled out for the roof rack Kamar one with Jack and shovel and its a ripper. Weight up high isn't a huge issue for most of the driving I do.

I simply carry my hi-lift Jack under the back seat. It slides in perfectly from the passenger side, on its side and facing the rear of vehicle. I also store a short handled shovel and axe under seat from the other side. They're always there for whenever I need them, out of the way, weight low, no external protrusions or temptation for thieves.

I have one mounted vertically on the back of a Series 3 hardtop and the weather is not doing it any favours at all. Inside sounds like a good idea.

I had the same problem. I had mine fitted across the rear cross member with a front runner kit, then put on a mantec wheel carrier and had to relocate the jack. After much planning etc as per the series 3 I decided to get the front runner roof rack side mount kit and that's where it now is.

Not ideal if you are under 6 foot tall and obviously there is that weight hanging off the side putting strain on the roof rack mounts.

I've given up thinking it further at this stage and under the seat may be the last option
