    Hail cover?

Has anyone looked into a home-made or retail cover that you could throw over a 90 or 110 if you had a bit of warning about a hail storm, and keep folded away somewhere in the back when not in use.

I'll happily accept most dents and scratches as badges of pride, but having a pockmarked Defender due to being out somewhere at the wrong time during a hail storm doesn't have the same appeal.

Today did like hail didn't it, was thinking the same thing
I just bought one of those fancy ground sheets, multi layer thingy, keep the sand out, let the earth breath, would probably do the trick for moderate sizes hail

Note eBay has hail protection covers
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
    apologies to Socrates

Yes today is what put it in my mind too.
Cheers for the tips - will look at ground sheets. If they have gromets or some can be added, could tie it underneath side to side and front to back so it didn't blow away.

drifta C gear matting, suitably expensive, not sure how scratchy it is.
    I can't justify their $250 axes though

Hi. I purchased a cover from Stormcovers.com.au, specially designed for hail. They are made to order to fit both 90 and 110. Factory is in the Nosa Heads area. Had mine for several years fantastic, only downside could be to large to store in rear. I purchased a smaller one from Autobarn, Autotecnia hail covers for traveling.

Living in the Brisbane area these covers have saved my Defender from heavy hail storms numerous times. Cheers

Having had one of our cars absolutely HAMMERED by hail a few years ago (400+ dents!), I am really conscious of what hail can do. Don't know whether it's me or not, but I have the feeling that hail is happening with increasing regularity of recent years. Although I can remember a hailstorm in which I was caught on my bike riding home from school in Toowoomba MANY years ago, & a hail stone put a large dent in my Miller headlight!
So which cover "saved" your Defender, the large one, or the Autotecnia item. I have heard that a proper hail cover is a fairly large, cumbersome itm to transport.
Every time I see dark clouds, or a bit of bad stuff on the radar, I do NOT feel good!!

Thanks for the tips - I'm guessing the Autotechnica is somewhat of a compromise if it fits more easily into the back.

Hi Pickles. The Stormcover hailcover gives the Defender 100 per cent coverage, roof and sides, use it all the time as I am unable to garage my Defender. Is cumbersome to transport. Used when at home

The Autotecnia hailcover only gives roof, bonnet and rear door protection, no side protection but is more transportable. Used when traveling.

Both these covers have saved my Defenders. After having several cars destroyed by hail in south east of Queensland the hailcovers have been a good investment.
