    Want to replace a 85 county 3.5 V8 dizzy

    Hi all,

The dizzy in my County has had it. Can anyone suggest a replacement?

I've had a look at some Rangerover 3.5 dizzies but get confused with the male/female description.

    Cheers,
    Bob

The only real difference between the various dissys is the oil pump drive mechanism. Pre about 1976 was one type, after that they had a wobble drive until 1993. 1994 to 1998 serpentine belt engines had a totally different oil pump driven off the crank shaft but the earlier dissy drive can be fitted to any later dissy. So as a suggestion, any electronic dissy from a vee belt engine will fit. You will need a matching coil if you change to an electronic dissy from points.

Then if you like you can replace the Lucas electronic module with a commonly available Bosch one, which needs a little rewiring. See thread here:

The best thing I ever did when I had a V8 in my County was get rid of the Lucas dizzy and replace it with a Bosch Scorcher dizzy.........ran better, easier to tune, stayed in tune and better fuel economy (still not good fuel economy )
