    P0299 & limp mode

Looking for a bit of direction on the current fault I am having with my 2010 Puma. Apologies for the long post

It all started off with a little black smoke while accelerating, for a bit of background I have an alive remap, not a powerful one, just to close the EGR and run it better, decat pipe Allisport inter-cooler.

I put the original Map back on to see if it was smoking, it wasn't however it after driving it for about 30 mins it went into limp mode and engine light came on, my ultraguage spat out a p0403 error which is the EGR from what I can find. I turned the car off and on and drove away it felt rough when the EGR was open but got me home without any issues, later on I thought I would put a diesel additive in the fuel to give it all a clean or do what magic they are supposed to, then I put my remap back on to see if that helped, and it did but has brought up a whole new issue.

I am now getting a p0299 turbo under boost issue and the car goes into limp mode whether the map is on or off, I can't find any pattern to it and it does it daily now, I can drive up steep hills and it is fine but when I cruise up the motorway it will do it, once it does it it will do it 2 or 3 times in succession, then be fine for another 10-20k.

This morning I took my son to school, around 30k and it was fine, then half way home on the motorway sitting at around 90kmh the ultraguage alarm popped up and said there was an error, and when I pressed the accelerator it was right, no power. So this is now happening daily.

After a bit of research I have done the following:

Changed the turbo hoses in case they were having issues
    Cleaned the MAF sensor
    Cleaned the MAP sensor
Did a spray decarb through the air intake to give it all a clean (getting desperate at this point)
I have also cycled through a tank of fuel since then also.

I checked the cable to the turbo but I can't see if it broken as I read it can break and there is a repair kit for wiring loom, I will order one just in case from the UK but hopefully I don't need it.

I cant see any cracks in the inter-cooler but it is hard to see down there, I may pull it out at the weekend and stick the old one back in to see if it helps.

Has anyone experienced something similar? And what should I check next? I am getting to the point I might have to stick it into Land Rover and I have little faith in them, they will probably tell me I need a new turbo knowing them.

I wish I had not worried about the little bit of black smoke.
    help

I would've said it was your intercooler hose, as they can delaminate internally. But quickly reading your post again, it seems that you've already changed them. Did you use Landrover hoses or silicone?

I think i recall another post on here a couple of years ago, in regards to PO299 code, I'll have a quick look.

    Found it; Intercooler hose

    Good luck.

Changed them for some samco silicon ones, they are supposed to be pretty good from what I read, that post sounds exactly like what I had, but new hoses did not fix it this time.

    Thanks

Have a real good look for any splits in the intercooler, doesn't take much for it to put the car into limp mode.

Also, it is unlikely, but the actuator for the variable vanes on the turbo could be sticking, or as a you mentioned a problem with the wiring. If you need a turbo give me a pm.

    Hope this helps,

    Tim
