    Fried puma ECU

    As described in my other thread, I have very helpfully destroyed the ECU in a mate's 2010 2.4 tdci 110 defender by welding without disconnecting the ECU harnesses. Woo-hoo. Just let me know if I can help with anything else...
    Anyway, a couple of questions arise;
    is it possible to have the ECU repaired?
    Assuming the answer to the first question is 'no', when replacing the ECU, do the key fobs also have to be replaced?
    There is a second-hand ECU on Pommy Ebay at present- if the part numbers match, would there be any problem with a foreign unit?
    Thanks for any help.

    Don't people who have a BAS tune replace the ECU?, certainly on the 2.2 they do as it was in my case.

    Maybe place a wanted add someone who has a BAS tune may never want to go back. Maybe order tune from BAS as, at least with the 2.2, you get a new ECU with the 'kit'

    I'd suggest talking to Peter at Bell Auto Services in the UK.
    He know his way the UCU's and does few group but on here folk rave on about.

    NEW!! BAS Remap Tool Group Buy #Puma's only#

    I would expect you'll need to do a "pump learn" if a different ECU is fitted, BAS will know for sure.

    Thanks for the replies thus far but I don't think we will be looking to put in a performance upgrade, I guess I can make the suggestion but realistically we just need to get hold of a standard ECU at the lowest cost to get the vehicle going. My question remains regarding the key fobs and the foreign spec ECU?

    Hi POD,

    I recall asking about security and the ECU swap out some time back and the replies were that the fob/immobilizer is a completely separate sub-system, was it a Lucas 10AS something or other?

    EDIT: A bit of Googling and it looks like you "pair" the new ECU with the 10AS using a Nanocom or similar.

    So what your saying is you have to disconnect your battery and as well as the ECU when you weld on these new fandangled things Dam

    every time I have done any welding on my vehicle, I have unplugged the 3 harnesses from the ECU as a precaution as well as disconnecting the battery which is done mainly to protect the alternator. This time I forgot to unplug the ECU and it is dead, so I guess I would advise the unplugging of the ECU!

    I'll do a bit of googling as well but would you be able to provide a link to the page you found? I am wondering about swapping my ECU into the mate's car so I can at least test-drive the transfer case rebuild, but I'm a bit cautious about it- don't want to end up with 2 dead vehicles.
