You will know when its working. The vehicle gets all jerky and starts to make noises as the brakes lock up the spinning wheels to provide drive to the wheels with no momentum, its an unmistakable experience.......

Traction control or DSC or both?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I have only pressed it when stopped, to see what happened - which was nada.

When TC is working you will hear noises and the TC light will be on.

When DSC is working, the same will happen(the TC light will not illuminate),but power is reduced as well at times, and also the orange DSC light will illuminate.
When driving in soft sand,as an example, DSC will come on,at times, momentum will drop and you may get stuck.

You MUST remember to turn it off, particularly in soft sand.
Remember also every time you turn the engine back on again it resets back on,so you have to turn it off again.

No my 2014 doesn't either. That's the Dynamic Stability Control button - 2015/16 Defenders only. I'm surprised there's no dash light to say when it's on or off? ...Traction Control does not have a button and can't be turned on and off manually as far as I know. It's automatic.
