    Replacement Defender Seats.

    Hi all,

I am seriously looking at replacing my Drivers seat with something more comfortable from another vehicle, and was wondering if anyone else has gone down this track.

Before anyone suggests Recaro, I have had these in the past (in a Ford in the UK) and they great, wouldn't hesitate in fitting them, but unfortunately cannot afford to shell out a couple of grand for one.

So am looking at either a kit from Exmoors or something out of another Brand vehicle.

So just want to know if anyone else has done this or have any recommendations.

I realise I may lose the quick access to the ECU etc, but can live with 4 bolts etc, as most seats do not have detachable bases.

    Regards.

Hi my cousin fitted Ford Falcon seats in his stage 1 , now I know it's not a Defender , but the seat box is the same . The seat box angle is the problem , but with a bit of tinkering he go them it fit fine . I also fitted Peugeot seat in a series 3 a long time ago , so you can do it . Take the seat and track out and offer the replacement in and go from there ! Jim

    Thanks mate,

I know it can be done, just wondered what seats from other cars are comfy, looking for recommendations......

Have read from UK LR forums of Peugeot 306 and Saab 900 seats being fitted, but as Ive never sat in one don't know what they are like.....

Being European, might not be too many around in breakers......

Suppose could always look for those cars being offered for sale and go and have a test drive!!

(Sorry mate not actually Interested in your car, just want to know how comfy your seats are!!!!)

G'day lion 3. I have just sold my '10 Puma 130 & had for a while a Citroen BX seat in it. Not the best seat but better than the orig. & the good thing that clinched the fitting was that the base comes up & out w/out tools to access the seat boxes. There was however a bit of frigging around getting it mounted, probably not legal but then if we toed the line all the time-----imagine? PM me if you want more info. Ian

    Hi Ian,
I was aware that the Citroen BX had detachable bases, but thought that they would be pretty old now (1982-1994), so possibly not in real good shape.....

Also, I don't even know if i've ever seen one here in Aus..... plenty in UK and Europe though.....

So how do the Puma compare? I would have thought they were pretty comfy??

My Defender is a late Nov 06' build TD5, seats are in pretty good shape.....

I just don't find them that comfy.....

    Regards,

    Col.

I drove a patrol that has had the latest falcon seats retrofitted, it was very compfy.... obviously fitting them into a defender would be different but they were good to sit in.

Yea Col not too many BX's around now. I've still got a couple of front sets, ordinary 8v TZI & a 16v pair. The 16v ones have more lateral support webs so were a bit harder to get up & over getting in the vehicle. I ended up with 16v seats with 8v base squabs. I've also got an excellent pair of '97 or so 300 tdi front seats to sell. Ian

    disco seats

    Hi,
we fitted some nice leather front seats into our 130 big cab from a Disco 1 or 2 --can't remember which and they work really well, although you do sit a fraction higher and to access underneath you need to undo two nuts at the front and hinge them back--limited space but nice to sit in-- BUT of course we have that extra room behind the seats being the big cab so need to measure to see if the seats are too big for a normal cab--if a s/w then no drama. We mounted on a chequer plate base.

I'm looking for some seats that have seen better days. Perhaps a torn seat pad with a spring that sticks into your ass. Some tufts of lion fur from that time some got into the vehicle. Water level stain from that time you were chest deep in a river. Bullet holes from that time in Zimbabwe...
