I think for me personally the idea of using Bruce was that i have someone locally (in Australia ) that i can talk too. BAS being straight out of the UK made things a little complicated for me.....i prefer dealing with people in person.
On a different note : Tombie do you run an egt gauge????
Yes, I prefer to deal with "people in person" too, I'm computer hopeless, so if I stuffed up the computer side, I'd need someone local,....haven't found one yet.

I'm a very good customer of Bruce's, my last Puma I had the Alive Tune done by him but got jack of having to go back each time to have it re-installed after it had been wiped when it went in for warranty. Yes he reloads for free but I still had to make the time to get there.

This time with the new Puma I went with BAS and I couldn't be more happier. I now have the advantage to swap the computer out of it, if it goes in for warranty and reload my own updates and upgrades and have the biggest advantage going with BAS with being able to clear my own faults. No more being left in the middle of "bum fack nowhere" in limp mode.
This is all done through your iPhone or Android.
You have access to the whole computer and its settings same as LR all through Pete Bell BAS's app.

Statistically the BAS tune will be the most popular on here and that is for a reason.

The Alive tune I had done on the last Puma was ok and made a bit of a difference but Hell its definitely not in the same league as the BAS 170.
    This thing hauls arse now!

Don't forget the benefit of having the app that allows you to read and clear faults, which is more advanced the the scan gauges or Nanocoms people are getting.

But if you really aren't fussed on reading your own faults and loading your own maps, then I can't recommend Bruce high enough, his work is top notch and he knows these trucks inside out. After all he owns 4 or 5 Defenders himself.

I have recently bought and installed a BAS RRS for the 2.4 tdci with EGR delete.

I am not interested in overclocking the donk at this stage but I did want to be able to interrogate fault codes and delete the EGR.

I completely numptied up the EGR delete process fearing that I had totalled the ECU and the vehicle would be off the road till I got the brains to the UK!!! - but no bother Pete calmly emailed me through the recovery process which went smoothly of course.
Oh and that was 11pm on a Saturday his time... I have no fear in recommending BAS service and product even if he is not local - hell no one is local to me so its not really a consideration but for those in the smoke BAS is a fantastic option.

Oh and the EGR delete has transformed the low speed high throttle operation of the 130, so much smoother to drive now. The RRS is a tidy little tool to have too with the iOS app I can plug it into any landy and interrogate the ecu... a very handy tool to have in the box.

    Alive tune through Davis performance

Good for around 170 hp and 450nm

    As for how it goes,
    - spools up much faster
    - a lot more torque where you want it
    - better fuel economy
    - more of a pleasure to drive

Off road: its unreal. Its no longer feels lethargic but rather punchy and powerful.

Would i recomended it: in a heart beat.....amazing

The best part is over taking cruisers on a up hill slope on the highway......they cant stand it.
what was the ball park figure for the set up mate? sounds pretty good!

Roughly 4k. Tune alone is 1500.
Then factor in cooler and hoses, egr blanked with plate and decat pipe plus all the labour and 4k is around the figure/cost.

    I went with BAS.

    For several reasons really;

    • I could load the original map or the 170HP map at my whim. So any resets when in for warranty work (and I've had a bit.... :-( ) don't matter.
    • When making inquiries here in Perth, the only other person that did it wanted to be paid the full price anytime it needed to be reinstalled.
    • Other remaps were only 150 HP. At the time that is, and I am not sure if they offer 170HP yet.
    • Free upgrades to the latest map.
    • A full diagnostic/reset tool with readouts for anything that the computer reads.

Performance wise, I can only say, "What are you waiting for"....

On road, it is a racer. Easy peasy driving normally, super smooth, but give it some stick and it just takes of. Kangaroo hops are a forgotten thing these days.... My son's Missan patrol ute (last of the turbo 4L) is not as quick, without winding the boost right up and pouring the fuel in.
I rarely use 1st. 2nd gear take-offs are the norm (same as before the remap) but now it is smooth and effortless. If turning into a side street from a standing start, and I give it to much, it can break traction on the rear inside tyre (265/75) with 4 people in the car. Towing is great. No lack of power to overtake road trains or hiluxes. :-) (It always seems to me that drivers of other makes of 4WD take offence at being overtaken by a defender.....)

Of road it is amazing. The throttle control, because (in my understanding) it is longer travel and an exponential function now, not linear, makes it super easy to control under low power requirements. I found it excellent when I did the power-line track (rock/hard clay/mud) in January. I could minimise wheel spin easily. In the sand, it is amazing! What a difference! If you don't know what you're doing, you can dig yourself in quite quickly. But if you grew up driving under-powered 4WD's (mainly series Landy's) like me, it's just amazing. :-) :-) So quick to respond and lively.

Funnily enough, I don't think you want much, if any, more power in the dirt. You will just get yourself into lots of trouble. Like my mates who are new to 4WDing and think power is your best friend.... :-) They are a menace on sand tracks. :-(

    But then, mine is a 2.2L 90.
In a 110 or 130, the extra weight would allow you to effectively use a bit more power.

Longtimer, that sums it up beautifully and yes you're right about the usability of the power in the 110. As long as you have the correct tire pressure, it is just awesome on just about any surface.
    Cheers, Billy.

I'm pretty much sold after reading this!

    Couple questions.

    1. Did you upgrade intercooler?

    2. What does the Bas170 remap cost?

I've got customers that have a few different ones, BAS and Auto Code being two of them.

I generally recommend Auto Code as he is local (Perth W.A) and does a lot of all the little odd stuff including repair work to engine/trans/body computers etc etc.

While not having a go at anyone and is only IMHO...
*Every time you re-flash any computer chip, you do run the risk that it can fail without recovery, I dont recommend customers re-flash every time it goes back to the dealers, they cant see a re-flash anyway.
*While Both Jeep and Land Rover arent AU built, I do use only Australian (or pref local W.A) businesses such as APT Fabrications, Hi tough Engineering, Auto Code, Rovacraft, Murchison Products, where as I could import everything I get from overseas suppliers.

    Regards
