My 2013 2.2 Defer had a clutch growl @ 15K, took it up with LR and to my surprise they replaced the clutch. The upside other than a new clutch and no growl was the drive line backlash had decreased.

As my car was just about out of warantee, I asked the dealer to check the gearbox to transfer shaft for correct lubrication. Low and behold they have replaced it. Only took them 8 days....whole other story.

The good news is the drive line backlash has improved again to near acceptable.

    Cheers

My 2008 110 had 4 clutches replaced under warranty.
The last one also knocks but I was advised by a well known and respected independent that it does no damage so don't bother fixing it.
That was about three years ago now and it still knocks but seems fine otherwise.

It never 'rattled' like that when new. I noticed it after I got back from a trip to Melb recently.

    I need to get a service soon so I'll talk to the dealer. I have a MY15 2.2 110 with approx 18,000km.
So - I finally got the car to the dealer this morning for it's two year service - they have called to advise it is the output shaft that is causing the rattle and they are replacing it.......

I had the rattling clutch on mine replaced with an AP HD clutch and the rattle stopped.

I also have a loud rattle when idling in neutral with the clutch pedal released, goes away with the clutch pedal depressed, doesn't always do it but more often than not and hot or cold. It's a loud rattle and sounds like something more substantial than a friction plate spring; I'm thinking it is one of the springs in the dual-mass flywheel...although I'm not 100% sure whether my vehicle has a dual-mass flywheel! 2008 2.4 Puma 130 with 256,000km on what I've no reason not to believe is the original clutch. It'll be coming out soon and if the flywheel is a dual-mass jobbie, it will be renewed along with everything else.

No dual mass in the defenders. The transit got 1 though. ..

The clutch centre has likely failed/ broken a spring...

Thanks Justin, that's very good news- makes the clutch replacement about $500 cheaper than anticipated.

Has anyone considered one of these?

    CLUTCHFIX HD1 – DEFENDER TDCI — LRO

I have a leak in my transfer case seemingly at the intermediate shaft, and rattly springs in the clutch, wondering if it is worthwhile getting the clutch done while they are half way there fixing the leak.
