They have been around for years, I think RACV shops sell them. Unless you have a problem manually turning a jack handle I think they take up too much space and it's something else to go wrong.
Over the last 18months I've collected a number of Nissan/Toyota/Daihatsu screw jacks from Tip shops, trash & treasure markets etc. Here are a few of them.

They often need pulling apart & re-greasing but they are reliable and there is virtually nothing to go wrong. If you need a handle you could either make one or go to a wreckers.
Strange how old Land Rovers survive but not their Jacks but old Nissans & Toyotas get scrapped and their jacks survive ?!
