My Td5 was the same Vince. So I looked at doing the mod as suggested in here and found that the wire was already up in the roof lining. As you know, I had this vehicle from new, so go figure.

I did find that it worked from a longer distance if approached from the back of the vehicle.

And it's all one unit too, and easy to program.

You still have to get the key blank cut though, but any reasonable key shop or locksmith can do that.

Just to get it straight, the orange grey wire in the fuse box is the same and can be extended or do I need to pull the instrument cluster out to get to it????

My remote wire was accessible from the fuse box area under the steering wheel,
Pretty much like Drover said in his post (No:17) in the "Puma remote locking distance" thread that I linked earlier.

One end of it was just hanging loose and was easy to grab and modify...

Just some info....
The genuine key is only from memory $80 and the separate transponder is $50, so if you happen to go swimming with it, you are only up for a transponder.

I find disabling the immobiliser a far more useful thing to get done on a Defender, so when the transponder's battery goes flat, gets wet, or gets lost in the middle of nowhere a Defender owner can simply drive home..... the D3, D4, 200 series Land Cruiser owner will be stuck in the dessert with a locked or atleast imobilised vehicle.

Yeh. How do you disable it? I've asked a dozen times for my EKA and drawn a blank so far.

You can disable the immobiliser using the old Land Rover T4 which works on Defender TD5 and Defender TDCi (puma) 2.4lt (just select 2004) (yes fancy that, they used the old software on the first of the TDCi models).

After that the Defender TDCi (puma) 2.2 use the Land Rover SDD software, I use SDD for everything now though.

I've not ever used other diagnostic tools, but if they have a "country select" or a "pre-delivery" option then I'm guessing you could use it.
