LH sill tank options for a 130

    Hi all

Just wondering if there is an off the shelf tank or do I need to go custom. Also what capacity am I looking at? If it is only 40 liters or so it might not be worth it.

I can't use the RH side as I have an air tank and water pump in there.

    Thanks

I've not seen a L/H (passenger) side (rear?) sill tank, not to say there isnt such a thing though.

IMHO, I've fitted plenty of the r/h side aux 40 odd litre tanks and hate the whole idea of them, my gripes with them are:

*When both tanks are full you are relying on the rubber filler hose section never failing.
*If it does fail with the tanks full you have at least 20lts of loss before its below the filler hose section.
*The filler hose section is an odd not off the shelf hose size.
*If (when rather than if) the filler hose section fails you need to drop the main tank to replace it.
*The same deal applies with regards to the easy fill hose (that hose round 25mm), if it fails (and they do) diesel pours out until its below the easy fill pipe.
*You need to drill a hole in the original tank to fit a small hose that also looks very vulnerable to getting damaged.
    *hugely expensive at $975 inc

*The replacement long range fuel tank such as the Long Ranger (brand) 120/127lt tank is built really nice and actually simplifies the whole tank setup and its only flaw is needing someone thats fitted them before to do a few mods thats arent mentioned, as in: remove locating tab on the fuel pump/fuel pickup housing on some models, replace the easy fill hose with better quality, re-route the one way breather to the very top just behind the filler cap, add some more mounting holes, give the tank a coating of black epoxy paint once fitted. The Long Ranger tank also comes with stabiliser extension mounts that the other tanks dont include and are $1100 inc

I've got a pair of Mulgo sill tanks on my 130.

They are well made, sit flush with the chassis and are tapered up at the sides. They fit with my sidesteps. They have survived numerous offroad trips, including the OTL up and back with no issues, but I have to admit driving a little more carefully with a grands worth of tank under my feet.

According to my water meter the left tank holds exactly 65litres.

I got a second Mulgo sill tank on the right for diesel, and it holds about 83 useable litres. The outlet is at the back of the tanks, so I pump the last of the fuel out when going up hills. Some photos are in my build thread post #167, and I think there are some more of the water tank earlier on - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...ml#post2485144

They have held up well, and I am happy with them.

    edit: found some more photos

I had sill tanks on my 76 rangie and they were very robust On my 130 HCPU Im looking for the tank that goes under the rear seat (does anyone still sell these?) as there's a false floor in the tub with ample under floor storage and the seat, even with quick release tabs is still going to be a PITA for general storage.

Anyhoo... how does a Long ranger go with bumps? Id prefer a separate second tank for security (dirty fuel/ruptures etc). Are there any other options other than sill tanks or a bladder in the tub?

Yes, there are a few threads on here about tanks for under the rear seat on 130 dual cabs. Chris from Abber tanks is your man. Nice guy and reasonably priced rv water tanks,Custom Made Holding Tanks for storage Marine, Boat, Holding, Yacht, Campervan, ,Caravan, RV, Motorhome - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Queensland. I have one of his tanks in my 130, post #93 http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...ml#post2088486

I have attached the dimensions for my tank (300tdi). It holds 50 litres of water. The pumas require a different shape.

This looks good, what I like about it, is the little things, it comes with sway bar extensions (well in the pic it does) and looks like just about any towbar would work with this including the LR factory one. Also lists this tank for the 110

Looking at their distributor list (just quickly) I only found one that was pushing their products and prices look pretty good.

I've got a few customers that have the sill tanks on either side, what I like about sill tanks is it distributes the weight more evenly on each side and front to back.

P.S sorry my comments were in regards to this tank https://longrangeautomotive.com.au/L...eplacement~256
