The 10AS is basically the alarm system. It does the immobilisation of the engine, the central locking etc. Fitted to TD5 Defenders and onwards (not sure the year they were first fitted).

Its a green box attached to the bulkhead. Usually you can see if through the right hand (drivers) speaker.

Are you having a problem with you Defender?

Don't suppose the fuel cut off valve has been activated. Sit's between the coolant canister & the engine on the bulkhead. There is a reset button on top! Just a thought.

Will go for a dekko in the morning.

Next question will be whether or nor one can power this cut off valve independently and run the engine??? That would be good :0)

Was contemplating my failure in a "remote somewhere" with +40 or -10 and wondering how one would do an immobiliser bypass to obviate a life threatening situation and to avoid setting off one's epirb/plb.

    Cheers

    Hi Rick,

The fuel cut-off switch is activated in the event of a collision or sudden impact, so no electrical input. Must be some sort of 'G' switch trigger. Once activated just requires reset by pressing the top.

As for EKA page 5/6 of my Handbook has the procedure listed & "once entered correctly the alarm is disarmed & the engine will re-mobilise."

    Update:

Did go try and find fuel cutoff valve.MMMMMM?? Anyway will need to go find book/MM.

Have sent mail to JRA Oz received an acknowledgement that is all.

Will give them a bit longer then will drop a line to Federal DoT re: personal and personnel safety implications in an off road vehicle of an ADR item???; an immobiliser that will not re-mobilise.

Once that is done thinks we should all make it known that JRA, for off road recoveries eg Simpson at $3-3500 flag fall will be subject to Tort to recover costs with regard to known vehicle defect/failing! All vehicles fitted with a 10AS security box.

    Cheers
