    J. W. Speaker J3 Headlights

I’ve just purchased a set of J.W Speaker J3 Headlights ($1300) which are their premium drop in 7 inch DRL/Indicator LED headlight system from the US (The Retrofit Source).

They even have a flash start up sequence every time the vehicle starts which is a bit nifty, and a blu tooth party function to channel your inner hoon.

The plan is to remove my Rhino Rack and the twin ARB Intensity Driving lights, install the upgraded headlight loom and then use that and it’s relays to power the J. W . Speakers which will provide pretty impressive low beam and along with the ARB Intensity LED light bar, good high beam, so I can remove the weight off the roof of the vehicle and freshen up the look and vehicles handling.

I have a Terrafirma Light Bar that runs along the windscreen which I can run antenna etc off still and will run two Rhino Rack roof bars for my ARB awning as opposed to the full roof rack as I’ve got my military PT1 750KG trailer to carry camping gear in.

Thats the plan, we’ll see how it all pans out. Pictures when they arrive and I do the install.👍

Yep... wouldn't waste my $$ on another Optima... I'm trying the HVT-70ZZD Ultra High Performance Dual Purpose AGM battery... managed to fit 2 of them under the seats of my defender

Good effort! I'm restricted by the piranha battery tray which was designed for the optima yellow top, so wanted to stick to the same size.
I used to get 3 days out of the yellow top running the fridge and a few LEDs, barely get 2 hours out of it now!!
If the HVT-50D gets me back to the 3 day mark, that'd do me!

    While we’re talking batteries

I just bought this for my 110.
‘I’ll report on its performance once installed as my main battery, but 14Kg weight savings over standard and seriously impressive CCA which will be great for my 6.2 LS3 V8 engine on a cold Tassie morning!
    Sounds really good.
Ive their 120Amp in the rear and it’s perfect as an accessory power unit.

    Look forward to the feedback………..

More amd more seem to be heading this way. I suspect there’ll be more hitting the market.

I think the tech has matured.

As above, I think the technology has matured, our Defenders are a perfect platform as it’s a non engine bay fitment, and the best bit is the included proprietary software that allows the charging from our Alternators.

‘’As mentioned, I want to shed as much parasitic weight as I can while maintaining the main features of my build, so things like Lithium batteries, new alloys for recovery items vs old steel or iron etc, Dynema vs steel cable on the winch, Dynema soft shackles vs D Shackles everywhere, it’s amazing how much you can save!

That, and I plan to remove the roof rack very soon and use my military trailer to tow my camping gear and tent vs carry around all the time on the roof. Hopefully it’ll also help with the vehicle driving dynamics a little.

MoveLater2 Bugger! Incomplete Package Arrived from the good old US of A😡

I was hopping to have had my Trakpower headlight upgrade loom and the new J. W. Speaker EVO J3 headlights fitted and a report filed by now but no such luck.

Unfortunately, The Retrofit Source in the US sent an incomplete package to me without the included 2 types of connector looms that someone has obviously removed from the box and not checked before sending to me in Tassie.

Theres no way I can find a suitable set of plugs to fit the back of these new lights so have to wait for the supplier in the US to hopefully sort this for me.

Im really disappointed as I was excited about this modification, the headlights them self are superbly built and such high quality, anyway more to follow as this hopefully sorts itself out.

    Best wishes all.

    Ken

American supply is a no go, but we have an Australian supplier. Guess the price???

As above, the American supply of suitable Australian Left hand drive rated headlight stock is not available.

The Retrofit Source at least came to the party and were very good admitting their error re not supplying the full kit and the incorrect headlights and refunded my purchase price which I’m really happy with.

Disappointingly, J.W. Speaker in the US haven’t replied to my request for info or assistance at all.

After digging around further, I’ve found an Australian distributor who supplies Burton’s with and ADR approved product and I’ve just ordered and paid for mine. They’ve stock on hand in the correct pattern for us.

    Invision in Victoria.

Prepare to be assaulted though, $2500, which is twice as expensive as US supplied stock, but it is what it is.

I’ll probably remove my ARB Intensity large round driving lights as I can’t see that I’ll need them once these are fitted with the upgraded headlight power loom, so may make some money back selling them on Gumtree.

Here is the details of the Aussie/UnZud product for you.
