    Td5 fender power issues......

03 fender td5.....I'm suffering from loss of power........it's just not like it used to be.......
Then.....say on my way home from work.....it absolutely flies......

When it's down on power....it feels like it might be under fuelling......and there's no smoke or anything out the back.....
Feels heavy on take off and find I have to take off carefully to avoid stalling.....

When's it's got power....it'll take off properly....nice and easy....but I lose sight of the car behind me.....it's like this in all gears......but there's plenty of smoke.....

It has been chipped over ten years ago.......and it does this on different tanks of fuel.....so that rules out bad fuel.....also will get both scenarios from the same tank......

And there are two solenoid son the right hand front guard just under the bonnet and one of them is buzzing and can be felt all through the car from the drivers seat.......don't know if it's related......and I haven't really looked to see where the plumbing from the solenoid goes to.....

Also......it's not the egr valve........that err.....fell off a few years ago......

Any ideas where to start looking for the problem......?
    Or what it might be......?

    Cheers.....

Mine did that when the injector washers were stuffed.... also the plastic valve in the return line on the fuel filter can cause issues with power loss and smoke on startup( little plastic insert inside the brass fitting the fuel line conects to).. if it's buggered enough and you park pointing uphill the car will refuse to start... u have to either purge thing to get it going
    Loose intercooler hose??

I think they will be the solenoids to activate the EGR so shouldn't be related.

    Fuel pump?
    Fuel pump relay?
    Fuel pressure regulator?

If it is intermittent I wouldn't be thinking MAF.

I just had a look at the solenoids on mine(02) and they're making no noise or vibration at all( the two near the power steering tank...
You'd think that if it was the fuel pump you would notice quite an increase in noise.. and when mine went the car still ran but only at about 30 kph and lots of revs, if it's intermittent it might be the plug/ wiring at the pump...
How's it go starting in the mornings? Mine used to need to be given a good Erving or it lacked power, also at times you'd pull up at a stop sign and go to take off and it would feel dead power wise.... that was injector washers and this thing... it has a very fine gauze on the larger end witch lets air through but not distillate
Also worth checking that solinoid thingie that connects by a rod to the turbo .mine went quite stiff at one stage... I whacked some vice grips on the rod and worked it in and out with a small spanner as a leaver n a bit of crc where it meets the turbo

Regarding the maf , just unplug it and drive around, it'll feel different power wise but if it's consistent I'd rule out the maf

I'll start looking at those things on the weekend......

He was pretty keen to come to work today......had plenty of power this morning....as it should......

And I didn't noting the buzzing solenoid......so I'm thinking they are related.....
I will have a good look at it and see what it controls........
Sounds like there may be a dodgy relay for that solenoid possibly......?

Uneducated guess, but do you have any aftermarket boost control?

have you still got your original turbo hoses, could be the delaminating hose issue.
    Quite common.

No....there's no aftermarket boost control......it's all factory.....
Including the hoses.......I'll have to check the one after the intercooler......the ones before it were fine when I checked them a few ago......

Ive had similar, oil in harness can do it though I'm sure you've checked that, bad earth under the ecu causes havoc too. Another one for me was transfer box slipping out of 4x4 - even gave a smoke increase. I have to keep pressure on after changing from low range just to make sure it sticks. It could still be the maf or map too so worth checking. Could be simple dirt or grit in the harness at the ecu too, pull the wires and clean them, also harness can run through at the block causing weirdness. Good luck.
