Thread: v8 stage one body on perentie chassis

There are two issues.

1. ADRs applying to the Perentie and to the Series 3 will be different, and you will need to ensure the body meets these requirements. (May be very minor - the date difference is not that great) One possible issue is the windscreen size - Perentie is higher, and the two vs single section windscreen.

2. The wheelbase of the Perentie and the Series 3 is 25mm different. Even worse, the axles on the Perentie are (about 10cm from memory) further back. You could use the Perentie bulkhead and everything forward of that solving the issue for the front wheel arches, but there will be significant issues requiring panel work around the rear wheel arches, but in any case you will have to use the wheel arch extensions as the track is wider.

The basic dimensions of all the panels are identical, so it is basically doable. The 1985 County, however, is essentially the same vehicle as the Perentie, so (almost) everything is bolt on, with less issues than mixing parts from a Stage 1 and an ordinary Series 3.

The other aspect is that the Perentie has coil springs with towers where the Stage 1 has leaf springs - I dont know but will cutting of the Stage 1 body be needed to fit the different suspension.

thanks guys its just too much work, and am selling my stage one V8 109" series 3. just going to dedicate my time towards the county,

are there any rules in regards to putting a perentie engine and gearbox into a 1985 county? since the 4bd1 is newer than the county? what else could i swap from a perentie into the county?

Maybe I am missing something but hasn't your County already got a 4BD1 fitted ?

The 4BD1 engine was fitted as an option to both Stage 1 and the "County" throughout its production in Australia. This means there is no issue at all as far as legality goes.

The major difference between the 4BD1 and V8 engined "Countys" is the high range ratio of the LT95 gearbox/transfer case. The 4BD1 is higher geared. (Obviously, engine mounts, front springs etc are also different - and note that the flywheel housing and bell housing are special parts for 4BD1 engined "Countys" and Perneties.

Note. The term "County" is actually a trim level designator used by Leyland and its successors for Landrover Series 3, Rangerover, and 90/110 Landrovers. It is used loosely to designate Australian produced 110/120 and 6x6 civilian Landrovers contemporaneous with Perentie production (1984-89) simply because the most common variant was the County trim 110 five door wagon, which had the name "County" very prominent in the side decals (now mostly disappeared).
