Have you tried lubricating it with some graphite powder?
Hi all,
I've got a 2009 110 with a very sticky ignition. I've been living with it for a while but have finally decided to swap it out with a new switch and barrel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Silas
Have you tried lubricating it with some graphite powder?
Yep, it did help at first but it seems to be getting worse, particularly on hotter days. Yesterday arvo I couldn't turn the key at all so I might have to swap it out this morning.
Never done a Puma so not sure if they are similar, but on the county (and '99 model looks the same) its a case of:
- disconnect the battery
- remove steering wheel
- remove the steering column shroud
- remove the break off bolts holding the barrel in place (I used a small cold chisel and tapped on the edge of the bolt in the undo direction until they loosened)
- pull the barrel out and swap over the wires to the new switch.
- refit in reverse order. If you haven't got new break-off bolts you can refit them by cutting a slot in the head to take a screwdriver.

Thanks Steve, I got it done today. Mostly easy, except for getting the break/shear off bolts out, they were a real pain in the .... The harder to reach one felt like it was cross threaded so it never loosened off, had to hit it the whole way! At least I can once again drive my defender.
