SubscriberWell it seems like my original battery has decided it's had enough - I'm largely okay with that - being a 2011 model truck which did very short trips 4-6 days a week every week up until I changed jobs earlier this year.
I have fitted an Optima yellow top next to my original cranking battery. Also in the battery box is the dual battery isolator, the winch isolator, and some circuit breakers - so room is tight. What have others found in the way of aftermarket batteries of the same dimensions as the factory unit? My local stealer has 2 on the shelf, but wants in excess of $500 to let me have one.
Any recommendations welcomed

I replaced our original Varta with an identical Varta last year. Got it from Battery World. The bloke said Vartas are excellent quality. BTW, apparently there are two very similar Varta at that spec. - get the bigger one.

						SubscriberTombie: that is an option...
Mick: if you don't mind me asking dyou remember what it cost?
Sorry, I can't remember, but it was not excessive.
I'm not with the Defender, so I can't check the specs at the moment either.
I looked up the Battery World site, but couldn't see the right one.
This Batteries Direct website has lots of Vartas, so I assume it's one of them, but I can't remember which one:
VARTA Auto & Commercial Batteries
In our 110 we have 2 optima yellow tops which left a small amount of room for other things like isolators etc. Unfortunately can't show pics as the pics from our build thread have disappeared in the recent aulro upgrade and I haven't yet sorted that out. We used the Devon 4x4 battery tray but it took a while to arrive as they didn't have them in stock at the time.
Fullriver batteries are as good (in my opinion better) and cheaper than the Optimas.
I have had both and I buy fullrivers now.

I need to replace the battery in my vehicle (2013 Puma). I just got a quote for around $520. Does that sound right.
The guy was referencing start/stop, all the electrics etc. I asked him if he knew what a Defender was.
Sounds high. From memory I paid less than that for a replacement Varta from Battery World about two years ago. Varta was the original battery. There are two close sizes of Varta, so get the biggest one that fits.

Cheers DiscoMick. I thought so too. A lot of places ask about petrol/diesel and start stop which surprises me a bit.
I got these prices off the Every Battery page;
Buy Varta Car Battery H3 'Silver' (600 402 083) - Varta Automotive Batteries
Buy Exide 88HMFE Passenger Endurance - Exide Auto Batteries
Is there any quality difference between the main brands, Varta, Exide, Century, Super charge?
