Thread: Puma...alls well that ends well (I hope)

Yesterday evening my wife and two daughters were travelling home in the 2008 Puma when she lost power and stopped. Temperature gauge normal and no warning lights. Long story cut short the header tank was low on water so they went to houses and got water. Later my wife stopped again and they got more water. While stopped she noticed a red warning light on the dash. There was none lit before and she understands to stop as soon as she sees one. My wife and older daughter began to get worried. Suddenly a voice from the middle row says. "THAT IS THE HANDBRAKE" and so it was. These words of wisdom came from my younger daughter who has Down Syndrome.
All this time I was getting phone calls and updates. They finally arrived home in the dark. A quick examination by flashlight revealed a loose water hose.
This morning I was up bright and early to check it out. This is what I found. The clip
on the hose was too far up and there was nothing gripping the hose. This hose joins onto this junction (second photo). Over time it had worked itself up off the join.
It is awkward to replace. I removed the existing clip and replaced it with a hose clip and got the pipe reconnected. Then it was a 1/4 drive ratchet and a 7mm socket and lots of small turns to tighten the clip. Finally got it done.
I topped up the coolant and it took about 3 or four litres. Most of it came out when I disturbed the pipe last night.
I did an oil/filter change incase there was excess heat in the engine but as the gauge stayed bang on halfway throughout hopefully everything is O.K..
When topping up the coolant I put in a bit too much as I thought she was lower than she was so I syphoned some out...and got a mouthful of antifreeze. I've being rinsing my mouth out ever since
Next I managed to drop my ratchet and socket into the used oil when removing the oil filter housing :whistle:

U know that if u have a container with old oil or coolant in it and u drop any spanner or socket or screwdriver it will always drop into it. Almost without fail if ur working on vehicles. Its Murphys law. It HAS to happen.
