Take it back to who ever serviced it. At least they will have a head start as to what they touched AND they might have an idea of where the leak is coming from if they really service Defenders.
I just got back from perisher, hot air was blowing cold when the outside temp was around -5, others were having similar issues so thought it was just the temp causing it. On the way back to the Gold Coast, 2 hours from home I noticed the coolant temp rising on the ultra gauge to around 105deg when in 6the gear, took it pretty easy after that, when I got home and turned off the motor it shot up to 110deg, I have never seen it above 101 never mind 110. Anyway this morning I checked the coolant and it is very low, looked under Neath and I have a leak around the water pump area, I will try and attach pictures.
I am looking for a possible cause/fix, if I can do it myself I will but if it is going to be a big job I will get it into the shop. It is a 2010 puma with 200k on it. I just had it serviced 2 weeks ago so it must be a recent leak or they missed it. I have topped it up with some redstuff from Supercheap so I will probably need the system flushed now anyway.
Cheers
Pat.

If it's around the water pump it could be on it's way out.Does the TDCi have a tell tail hole?. Pat
I watched a video on YouTube the other day about changing the water-pump, couldn't find anything on a defender but found one on the 2.4 tdci transit, in the vid he did point out the hole that the coolant on his was leaking out of so I am going to try and see if I can find it on mine to see if that is the source.
If it is then I will order a new one, can anyone confirm these are the correct parts?

Replace the pump, not the seal. Pat
I had a similar situation.
Puma...alls well that ends well (I hope)
Mine turned out to be a loose hose on a three hose joint. But the thing about mine was that the Puma shut down before it got too hot and allowed the expansion tank to be topped up as the journey progressed.
Your coolant may indeed have been low but check your Power steering reservoir. That red stuff looks like power steering fluid. It's a common problem. It is caused by a loose joint on the pipe from the reservoir in your photo. You just tighten the nut on the join. Probably wrong but it is no harm to check your hose joins and your power steering fluid level.
Thanks guys.
I changed the water pump and filled everything up and the leak has gone, I checked all the hoses and they looked fine.
The water pump change was quite easy, glad I watched the transit vid first though.
ezyrama I will definitely be trying out Gordon for my next service or work, and Pat yes the tell hole is still there on the water pump and it looks like it was coming out of there.
And on another note LRdirect are great, ordered on the Friday had it on the Monday.
So thanks for your input guys.
