    Secondary fuel-water separator

    hi
I have a 2014 110 defender and would like to fit a secondary fuel water separator as im pretty nervous about fuel quality. Some of questions hopefully people could enlighten me
    1. what size are the fuel lines internal diameter and would the brass barbed fittings be adequate.
    2. What size filter.
    3. Where would you mount it.
    4. What feed back from people who have already fitted it was it worth it.

Personally I wouldn't be without one. Had a truck once, that used to just die on me as I was driving down the highway. The 'diesel bug' would clog the filters. Put in a racor filter, attached to chassis and never had a problem again.

My county has the water separator near rear wheel, then a water separator/filter which takes a fleetguard FS1234 filter in the engine bay, then the standard fuel filter, before it gets to the injector pump.

    Disposable cheap filter

I use the super expensive cheap $2 filters in line at an easy to get at location after the water separator. Carry a spare just in cast and it at times gets very dirty very quickly. Other times can last for months.

Try to buy from high volume sites rather than the cheapies. Did this after a load of fuel blocked the primary and secondary with fine particles like semolina in the cold. Exhaust smelt like thinners.

Waterwatch has a good reputation as a water catch/alarm system. https://www.responsiveengineering-au.com/

Some good stuff in this thread

2012 puma - water in fuel tank

    As I mentioned in above I have a 24tdci
I wanted extra filtration but also a primer

Went with the Parker p4 (racor)
It has been faultless. Have it installed prior to the factory unit
Can use 2,10 or 20 micron filters
I sourced Ford style EFI fuel fittings the same as factory
    To keep everything similar

You could use barbedbrass fittings with the factory fuel lines but they would be a pretty permanent fitting - once you beat the pipe and shrink it onto the barbs it is not coming off without a knife-tango

Ford style efi fittings with appropriate threaded males into the filter head were reasonable and easy to source

Although it's not the cheapest option, Diesel care have a solution that gives you all of the fittings, mounting kit and a guard that goes with the filter and water seperator.
Fits just above the cross member aft of the fuel cooler. The filter has a priming pump on it which adds to the cost. compared to the equivalent other brand units.
I installed mine in under two hours.

Put it in after a major event that, although was covered by insurance, still cost me north of $1500. Lime Milkshake.
Saved me again several weeks later, I checked the bowl and it had a substantial amount of water in it. I assume a lot of the servo's had got a bit of water in their tanks after the amount of rain we got around here.

I still get a least a teaspoons of water out of it every 5K or so.

The position that it is in, makes it a pain to drain though, but for me sooooo worth it.

    Cheers Glen.

I’d have to double check but I think supply is 3/8 and return 5/16 nylon fuel line.
    Using Ford push-on EFI fittings

I would be leery of sliding rubber fuel hose over nylon when you can easily buy leak proof joiners
Connector- Fuel Line | 800-194 | NYLON FUEL LINE UNIONS - 10MM | Dorman Products
And then all appropriate connections in PE fittings appropriate for nylon fuel line
