Mind if I ask - do you have any past claims or demerits? Wondering why my lower insured value results in a higher premium...

sid - yes. A few speeding fines, and a claim (withg Shannons) 3 years ago which resulted in a repairable write off.
inc is right - mine is not a daily driver - maybe 2 kms / day taking the dogs to dog park, and some weekends.

All might no be quite as rosy though. I estimated 150,000kms whereas its actually 187,xxx
The lady did say "its not up around 180 or 200 is it" to which I said I don't think so but will check.

So I'm afraid the insurance value will drop and/or premium rise... eeeek!

Aha, that makes more sense. Mine's a daily driver and I think I estimated ~15,000km per year driving.
    cheers.

Well, I rang Shannons - they said they hadn't even recorded the kms so no worries, values stay as is. Cool.

I drive to the dog park.

I can't walk two VERY excitable and barky dogs there together on my pat Malone.
Not only do they want to chase other dogs but they are adept at slipping out of collars... heads and necks too close in size....

I found Shannon's very helpful, when I phoned them to see if taking my 130 on a trip for a couple of months (limited KLMs policy like most)would effect my policy they said no problems.

How ever what they say and the reality of an interstate claim could be problematic, they are an insurance company after all.....I was surprised they didn't require some kind of recorded evidence for yearly mileage

A few years ago when renewing the insurance on my '95 Tanami Shannons wouldn't go above about $10K agreed value and the premium was around $700 on limited Kms. At the time my work vehicle, value $48K was costing $750 on unlimited Kms.
I contacted RACV Classic because I insure two other Land Rovers on Club Permit with them. Upped the agreed value to $12K (which looking at prices probably isn't enough) and the premium dropped to about $380 on limited Kms.
As others have found, the companies don't actually ask for the Kms on the vehicle which is odd on a limited Kms policy ?

Not covered off road so I'll have to get someone to drag the vehicle to a gazetted road if I have a problem but if I start using it seriously offroad again I'll look around.

If you are over 50 try APIA

I have multiple policies with them.

Don't currently have a 4x4 with them but my D1 was cheap, under half what a broker could get for me.

My commodore ute is valued at $16,500 and costs $423 a year

4x4s are covered "Anywhere in Australia"

Suggest getting a comparison quote from

    Lisa Brock
    Arthur J. Gallagher
    Direct: +61 8 8172 8134 | Ext: 80134 | Fax: +61 8 8172 8100

I've been with them for nearly ten years now and they seem competitive with the pricing. My only claims have been for broken windscreens but each time it's been fixed with no hassles.
