Got mine back (again) from the repair shop a week or so ago, the vast increase in torque from the new motor lunched the jack shaft between the gearbox and Transfer case. I'm now the proud owner of a LOF replacement shaft and while they had the transfer case out they replaced it with the rebuilt unit with the ashcroft centre LSD that I had done and didn't much want to fit. Thanks to the Series Workshop in Canberra for fitting me in and doing your usual excellent work. That Ranger Super duty is looking cheaper every day but I'm sure it wont have the "charm" of a Defender . Anyway, it made it out to the farm successfully today and has been doing commuter duties this week as well.

    Regards,
    Tote

    Engine stripped.

I got the engine into the shed and stripped it down, a stuck #1 & #2 piston were persuaded out with a bit of lumberjacking and the BIG hammer. Years of sitting with a bad head gasket and just a little water on top of the pistons was enough to seal it right up and grow a good crust on the bores. Tomorrow the search begins to find a local shop to bathe (coolant galleries are chockablock with snots) and inspect the block before I go though the joy of gathering new bits. Crankshaft and camshaft look in great shape at this stage. Hoping all is well as the planned swap engine has more than twice the kms as this one... and will be the final rites on my trusty old disco.

Gearbox and transfer case oil changes on '90. Couldn't get grease into the propshaft nipples so have ordered the grease gun attachments recommended on here.
Also the combination to get at the transfer case filler plug much easier next time.
    Great resources here as usual.

I migrated all the Huntsmen to another vehicle. The users of which are many and half of them arachnophobes.
    Cheers, Billy.

LS engine and 6L80e are in. Engineer signed off on the engine/transmission mounts, clearances etc. Approval to move onto stage 2 (the rest of the build). The hard part that is my cross the bear begins. FWIW, the engine looks a treat in the engine bay. Like it should have been there from factory.

Replaced the leaky radiator and the leaky core plug under the exhaust manifold. No more leaks.

Then the alternator immediately went poof. #justdefenderthings

Fitted a frontrunner gullwing window and now I have super easy access to my fridge which lives permanently in the back, plus a service.

Gullwings are game changes for access to the back. Particularly if you have a cargo barrier. We put them in. Wife said it was best mod ever.

Found the RH front tyre was flat. Swapped it for the spare, and it is in the back of the 2a (going into town tomorrow for a pink slip) to take to the tyre place. I strongly suspect it is another one of their short life tubes!

End of an era for us - we Sold it.

Ike has been a part of the family since new.
Time has come to let someone else enjoy.

A lovely couple from Adelaide drove up today to look and have put down a deposit.
They’ll be back next week to pick him up.
