Any tips on removing a dump plug?

200tdi defender had a service this week and I reckon they've overfilled it.. oil level above the danger mark. Tried getting the sump plug out with a socket and **** me, it's like a vault!! Any tips other than taking it down to the Arnold Classic Strongman comp?

Maybe a rattle gun or impact driver will loosen it for you But be "Gentle" so you don't do any damage

A bit o' pipe over the socket handle usually does the trick, or get a vacuum oil drain kit from your local parts store and shove it down the dip stick hole until you get the right reading. Example:

Failing that... spin the filter off and tip it out... replace and restart, then check.. if you need to; repeat..

200/300 tdi sump plug torque should be 35Nm (26 ft/lbs). A standard socket ratchet should be sufficient.

This is assuming the service technician(?) used a fresh washer under the sump plug. Sadly, many so-called technicians are schooled in the Toyota system of "use the longest bar you can find, and swing until you fart!"
