    Yes ABS and TC are siblings
    Both ABS and TC trying to do the same thing. That is differential braking or selective braking one or many wheels..

    They share almost the same components too. Abs pump, wheel speed sensor and ecu

    While I don't know the details, my understanding is that the abs bump has electronically controlled valves.
    So if the wheel speed sensor tells the ECU that Certain wheel exceed dofferential spinning speed threshold, whatever that is. Then the ecu sends a signal to the bump and opens the corresponding valve and thus braking bias...

    I think that threshold determines how sensitive the TC system feels?

    And in sand, you want that threshold to be very big

    And on tarmac, you want it to be relatively small?

    I guess that how the "buttons" in a discovery works...

    The harsh reality is that getting through the hard stuff is only 20% technology and the rest (80%) is mostly driving technique.

    Pressing a button on the dash dumbs down the Land Rover Experience ...it's a shame.

    A real estate agent in a Land Cruiser had to do that the other day. He told me that I should leave my Defender at the top of the block he was showing me because the track in was difficult!

    OP,

    I have a TD5 110 but have been having TC problems, I know the system are different however I think the same principle applies here. If you suspect that TC is not working, jack up the car turn it on then, try spinning one at wheel a time, the TC light will come on after you start rotating that wheel, if that wheel brakes TC is working on that wheel, if you see no TC light then you most likely have a ABS wheel sensor fault - this should be picked up by a scanner.

    If you have low pressure at the brakes then if could be either the ABS pump or you have air in your modulator or lines. Does ABS give you a decent kick when you apply the brakes with one side on dirt and the other on tar? apparently the TD5's Wabco unit should, I assume your's is similar.

    Thanks a lot for your reply mate.

    I'm taking the car in for a major service next week so I will explain the problem to them and see what they think. In the mean time I'll look for a safe place to do a brake test!

    I'm following your thread also. I youtubed abs power bleed and I've certainly never heard that noise before! I'll keep you updated, sounds like we are having similar problems.
