    Last Defender.

After noticing on Carsales, people stating they have one of the last Defenders built (sometimes the last) in Australia........ I wonder out of us, who actually does?

Mine would have to be close. Built/finished Jan 8th, 2016 and complianced Mar/16.

    Cheers

Whoever has the latest build date, it’s only the last until the new Model comes out (if it ever does). Of course if it’s rubbish, the ‘last’ real Defender will go up in value. But if it’s awesome, all current Defender prices may drop.

$100k May look like a bargain in 12 months time. ...Especially if the new model is $80-100k + like most other current Land Rover models and it’s rubbish! ...It’s a gamble a few seem to be taking.

I guess we should really say 'bought' instead of 'built' in Australia when it comes to these vehicles. When I bought mine the dealer said it was actually one out of the last handful of new defenders in Australia originally up in QLD. They had shipped down to the central coast to have outside their new dealership as a means of promotion. Not sure if it was the very last sold but I have 18/01/16 printed on the chassis and I bought it on 6/11/16.

I'd be curious to see if anyone bought one later than that as the land rover experience people hadnt seen one for a while, and didnt expect to see another one show up to one of their days.

I'm friends with one of the JLR national directors and he told me a few weeks ago that JLR Aus's last defender went to Purnell in Blakehurst. They had a competition or raffle or something like that to see who got the last one. It wasn't that long ago from what I understood so it sounds like JLR kept the last one for themselves until recently.

There is a new Defender too. It was shown at a dealer conference in Portugal a few months ago. He's surprised there's been no leaks. The team he is in saw it last September. Apparently it looks good. Different to the rest of the LR lineup.

Spoke to a dealer when looking at a late model D4 disco last weekend and he said people havnt warmed to the new one at all and we both felt the new defender would be similar. Shame really . They may have picked up some more soccer mums but i think this might be game over for a proper Landrover off-roader. They have already lost all the Government contracts.

If you mean the Army's Perentie replacement, then Land Rover didn't actually submit a bid. Well technically, Ford owned LR at the time and they are the ones who said no dice.

Could be talking about governments overseas.

Many used them until they stopped making them.

But i suppose if they can't supply a vehicle to suit the contract, they won't have the contract any longer....
