yes, I’m not pretentious in the slightest, its why everything in the JLR lineup horrifies me.

If you decide to go with logic/facts rather than peeps with multiple chips on their shoulder...and you do end up going the D2 route, feel free to PM me. I'm also in Canberra and can give you some advice on what to look for as well as how to check/fix the half dozen common problems...once they're sorted (and they probably already are in vehicles that are still on the road), D2s are (almost) as reliable as Japanese 4WDs...
Always looking for creative new ways to get bogged... :whistling:

76 RR...sold coz fuel was expensive at 70c/l
    93 200 Tdi Disco...old faithful...sold to make way for...
    99 Td5 Disco ACE...nice drive...hopefully reliable...

Such a relief to hear. I’m horrified too. Land Rover has become purely Range Rover.
Elitist. Expensive. False image of adventure. It’s a joke

I’m almost embarrassed of my Defender as a result! LOL. Idiots now only look at it as some kind of hipster. What’s causing this new world order of surface bling bs?

And that will gradually cause the original 'Land Rover' heart and soul, and i suppose heritage to die out and eventually disappear completely.

You can't tell me anyone that buys any of the new crop of around town vehicles, full of electronic bling(unnecessary crap, technology for the sake of technology) and low profile wheels, for looks, are interested in LR's heritage. They couldn't give a rats.

Unfortunately,i doubt the new Defender will be any different.

Thats the reason LR don't have a new vehicle in their lineup that i want, nothing to replace our D4.

And Toyota, nice and simple, keep on keeping on.....they must look over at LR and laugh.Massive sales numbers, and reliability to go with it.

In fact, looking at V facts,LR total sales for last year were similar to LC200 sales, but this year LR,for the last few months, are going downhill.

...surely LR executives are quaking in their boots by now and Gerry McSavilleRow’s day’s as head designer are numbered! But not holding my breath, because there is clearly a wierd stubbornness at JLR.

Toyota have been laughing at Land Rover since the 80’s when they really began expanding their working class and passenger 4x4 vehicle range and Land Rover turned their back on their roots and set their course for elitism.

Practically speaking, it doesn't matter whether Toyota is more reliable or not. Most country mechanics won't touch LR; they know Toyota. I've read of mechanics who won't even change the oil in a LR because of the badge.
Why doesn't matter, Toyota marketing has won the battle. Just be aware of the prejudice against anything other than Toyota.
It doesn't matter if they are bland, have poor ergonomics, give poor performance, poor fuel economy, less features for your dollar, if it isn't Toyota then "what is wrong with you".
The feeding frenzy when I sold a rusted Hilux was insane. Phone, sms, email going off. Sold in 20 minutes, took the ad down in 1 hour because I had the cash in my hand. Never experienced anything like it.

Such a shame to be accidentally stylish, when something is so antiquated that it comes back into fashion and desireable. Its happened to your Defender, watchout it may happen to you (and me and old men generally) too!
