sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  For easy access, it's a radio facia off job. When you remove the facia be careful to capture the metal clips (4 i think).  Losing one (or more) will mean your facia doesn't lock in nice and neat. 
You can buy carling switches and surrounds (as singles or banks) that you can cut into the dash.  There is ribbing on the backside of that part of the dash that you may need to trim depending on the location of the switches.  
I'm not sure if you can buy the double din side panel as a separate unit.  It's expensive but splurged on a double din stereo with GPS, Apple play and all the fruit with the double din facia.
