Solved finally. A crack in the intake manifold. Right along the plastic seam. A fine oily mist sprays out under pressure. Thank you all so much for your help. Really appreciate it.

Clean down then start and run at idle have a good look with a torch.
Mix up some detergent and water in a spray bottle and spray lightly and look for bubbles.
Spray lightly with some aero start to see if engine revs rise.
There is also a join around there for the cam girdle may have a leak from there.
The way it is spraying though it appears to be something with pressure.

Hey big Harold. Thanks for this call out. I gave it a good clean, started and after a few revs it was obvious. Spoke to MR and they have never heard of this failure...in fact they have never had to replace the inlet manifold due to failure. Still could have been something far worse!!!

Glad you found it. Is it repairable?

Someone mentioned plastic welding but you’d have to remove the manifold anyway, so might as well replace it with new.

    Here goes!!

Be interested to know the cost, if you don't mind, as I might be doing something similar soon.

Glad you got it sorted or well on the way at least.
Possibly post up the part number and price might help someone else out.
Not sure if ford seals will be cheaper than land rover ones.

Cracked plastic inlet manifolds seem to be a known problem on D4s with the 3.0 engine, judging from this thread.

I’ve been hunting around for the manifold.

Part number is LR039110 and cost $650 in Aus

I found it here also https://www.britishparts.co.uk/land-...manifold-p5380

Has anyone ordered from this place before?

The part number they list is LR039110G. No idea what the G designated but they claim it is genuine landrover part.

I can land it from these guys for $AUD350 inc freight.

I think I will need a lower gasket ( manifold to pipe work) and some sort of oil seal at the same location. Need to check the manuals to identify what’s required.

You might want to check Roverlord here to see what Mario can do.
