...not surprised they’re back in the fiscal doldrums ...their market diversification has certainly collapsed.

Like all the other Euro based makers, JLR had invested very heavily into diesel as the power train of choice for the next few decades. Now, (thanks in part to VW et al) their longer term plans for EV/hybrids have had to be dragged into the forefront of their development cycles.
The only possibility we have of a bigger engine in the Deefer, will be the expected take up of the model in the USA. If they believe that will be a bigger market than the ROW, they would likely look at a bigger power plant. If their future market looks like mostly Europe, they will go with smaller, more hi-tech power plants - exactly what the enthusiasts don't want to see. (At least this old enthusiast, anyway!)

At the moment the only real choice for a tough hard working 4WD ute with a good payload is either a tojo or a Nissan, the big yank utes are too big and fuel hungry and LR simply dont make any more utes
Waiting for a new model defender that will fit the bill 8s like waiting for the second coming of Christ, it aint going to happen.
All LR will roll out is more lightweights aimed at the luxury market.

Nissan don't have a tough work ute anymore.

As usual, whoever makes the plan at Toyota has all the bases covered. Diversity and foresight if not character. Land Rover now only makes one vehicle - Range Rover in many guises. They must be mad.

Classic Defenders will love on no doubt.

    Interesting, but a bit vague.
Does that mean "all new models" launched after 2020 will be electric, with existing models still offering diesel or petrol, or all LRs will be electric?
So if the Defender was launched before 2020 it could offer diesel /petrol?
    Unclear.

Their sales are down world wide,in Aus over 30% for the last few months.
And i don't think its caused by a lack of stock.

Maybe people don't want lots of Range Rovers that are all different shapes and sizes

Overall vehicle sales in Aus are down slightly, but no where near 30%

And then there is the big T,thats growing its market share month after month.

    Yup. Indeed.

All I can say is I’m glad there are so many excellent aftermarket suppliers and indi’s for Defenders into the future.
